Fury FC 82: Moran vs. Trujillo Results

Fury Fighting Championships is set to bring an action-packed card to Houston on Sunday, headlined by a flyweight title fight between incumbent champion Alberto Trujillo and challenger Paris Moran.

The Texas-based promotion is flying high right now, with middleweight prospect Zachary Reese having recently become the latest Fury-produced fighter to punch his ticket to the UFC by way of Dana White’s Contender Series. More Fury FC names are sure to follow. For now, two of the top flyweights not signed to a major promotion will duke it out in Houston.

Fight fans can catch Fury FC streaming live on UFC Fight Pass beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. PT for the main card. The preliminary card can be streamed on the promotion’s YouTube channel beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET/11:30 p.m. PT

Fury FC Flyweight Championship — Trujillo vs. Moran

Alberto Trujillo made his mark at Fury FC 74 earlier this year when he defeated Anthony Canzano to take home the vacant flyweight championship. Trujillo is small for the division at 5-foot-2, but makes his style work with a relentless pace that can be tough for many to shake. He trains under Eric Del Fierro at Alliance MMA, a gym that knows a thing or two about producing champions in lighter weight divisions. He has also competed all over the country, owning a win over another Fury FC vet in Edgar Chairez, albeit in Combate, while balancing his time between short stints in CFFC and King of the Cage. He is 3-0 since coming over to Fury FC, having won decisive decisions in each outing.

Paris Moran, meanwhile, is a lifer in Fury FC. He trains out of Gracie Barra Katy, and came up through the amateur ranks under Fury FC’s watch before turning pro and accumulating an 8-2 promotional record. His most recent defeat came at the hands of Joshua Van, an impressive prospect who has since found his way into the UFC and by all accounts should have a bright future in the sport. Prior to this, Moran had been a force of nature in the promotion, primarily getting the job done with his hands in addition to a slick submission game. He bounced back nicely from the Van loss with a rear naked choke finish in his most recent fight, but now, he once again has a chance to prove his worth when the lights are brightest.

Moran will have a six-inch height advantage, a rarity in the flyweight division. If he can manage distance, he may be able to put it on Trujillo, but will likely be “on his bike” the entire time as he looks to evade his opponent’s pressure. Trujillo, after all, has no problem going the five-round distance, and that may be his best path to victory against a sharp striker and all-around martial artist in Moran.

Rest of the Card

Jonathan Davis will meet Luis Gurule in the co-main event. Gurule is a 5-0 prospect training under Marc Montoya at FactoryX Muay Thai, and will be moving up to 135 pounds to take on a slick submission artist in Davis. Moving down the card, Israel’s Shimon Smotritsky will take on Kenan Jackson. Smotritsky has unsuccessfully tried to earn his way into the UFC twice through DWCS, but those defeats also happen to be the only two losses of his career. Both of his opponents (Mike Malott and Billy Goff) not only earned UFC contracts, but are a combined 4-0 in the UFC since then.

Elsewhere on the main card, 10-9 veterans Jacob Silva and Shojin Miki will face off in an exciting fan-friendly matchup. Another veteran, Mario Moore, will look to hand 3-0 Al Savea his first defeat, and Tony Toro will open the main card against Joshua Aleman. Toro is 1-0, while Aleman, a wrestler at Principia College, will be making his professional debut after going 3-0 on the Fury FC amateur circuit. Speaking of amateurs, the prelims will be dominated by amateur fights with three pro fights set to lead into the main card. This portion of the show will be headlined by a lightweight fight between Raymond Cardenas and 2-0 Bruce Whitehead.
