Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano – Battle for Supremacy

This Saturday, April 30th, the fate of the women’s lightweight division will be decided as undisputed women’s lightweight champion Katie Taylor (20-0, 6 KOs) will make her defense of her throne against surging Puerto Rican star Amanda Serrano (42-1-1, 30 KOs) at the boxing capital of Madison Square Garden.

Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano Preview

Though Taylor is the undisputed champion of the lightweight division, it is the 33-year-old challenger in Amanda Serrano who has more experience and accolades, being a titleholder across seven divisions.

Serrano has plenty of experience fighting in front of her Puerto Rican faithful in “The Mecca”, having defeated Heather Hardy in September of 2019 by unanimous decision and a first-round stoppage over Eva Voraberger earlier in the year. Most recently, Serrano has dominated on the undercard of both of Jake Paul‘s fights against former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, beating Yamileth Mercado and Miriam Gutierrez from pillar to post. “The Real Deal” Serrano is also undefeated in three professional MMA fights, picking up a submission win in the iKON Fighting Federation 7 main event last June.

Katie Taylor, meanwhile, had a career-defining victory at the Garden when she defeated Delfine Persoon in 2019 as well. Like Serrano, Taylor also has a dominant unanimous decision victory under her belt, coming in November 2020.

Their styles completely contrast one another as Taylor relies on technique and high volume boxing to get inside the opponent’s guard, control the pace of the fight, and display ring generalship.

Serrano however is a more well-rounded fighter. She is a southpaw, who can also display the same technical prowess as the Irish native;  however, she displays vicious power to the body no matter the division the Brooklyn fighter is competing.

It is truly going to be a special night for women’s boxing and for the sport as a whole as the top two women’s pound-for-pound fighters meet on the biggest stage possible.
