Carlos Prates points out that Ian Garry should not have been too friendly with Islam Makhachev during the fight.

Carlos Prates has joined the list of people who think Ian Garry overdid his respectful gestures. As the UFC 330 main event panned out, Garry repeatedly hugging and shaking hands with Islam Makhachev caught everyone’s eyes. Following significant criticism, Prates has also joined the bandwagon. He even thinks that the gesture cost Garry his title.

Carlos Prates Feels Ian Garry Missed Out on Aggression

Prates recently appeared in an interview with Ariel Helwani. Speaking about a variety of topics, he stumbled upon how the Irish fighter could have played it differently. Immediately, the Brazilian star pointed out that Garry lacked significant aggression. While he praised Garry, Prates also commented that over-friendliness during a fight might become an adversity, as was the case for Garry.

Prates said, “I really wanted Ian to win, but I expected Islam Makhachev to get the win. It was a really good fight. Five rounds, they stood at some points. Islam showed really good skills. Ian should have been more aggressive. I don’t really like too much hugging or being too friendly during the fight. Everyone has his own way to do things, but it wasn’t a nice thing — hugging and being too friendly.”

The Brazilian UFC star also went on to say that he was ready for a title fight. He was also confident about defeating the current UFC welterweight champion. Interestingly, Makhachev’s coach, too, has dropped a confident take.

Javier Mendez Believes Islam Makhachev can Beat Anyone

Makhachev passed his welterweight test with flying colors in UFC 330. Incurring minimal damage, the Dagestani star is ready to fight again before Ramadan. Now, with talks about Prates being a fearsome opponent, Makhachev’s coach is not ready to pay any added importance to the Brazilian star. In fact, Mendez feels that his 5-star student is ready for any challenge in the UFC.

“Bring on the next one, we're expecting to fight the best ones available. If it's Morales, great. If it's Prates, great. If it's Shavkat, great. If it's the number one guy the UFC picks, that's who we fight,” claimed Mendez.

Currently, all eyes are on Dana White. With both Prates and Michael Morales next in line, fans cannot wait to see whom White gives the green light.
