Henry Cejudo Proposes Future Roadmap for Gable Steveson

Gable Steveson had a dominant debut in the UFC, but when he returned to the octagon for the second time at UFC 331, things did not turn out very well for the American wrestler. After all, nobody likes getting knocked out in 12 seconds in front of a packed audience.

Following such a vicious loss, many have started doubting the 26-year-old’s future in Dana White’s promotion. Trying to help him out, Henry Cejudo recently revealed a roadmap that would help Steveson make a strong comeback. 

Cejudo opined that the NCAA champion should take a year off and focus on getting his striking better. ‘Triple C’ said on the ‘Pound 4 Pound’ podcast, “To me, I’m not surprised (Steveson got knocked out) and I hate to say this, bro. You cannot hurry up in this game, dude, and I hope Bo Nickal can also see this s— too. Like man, you’ve got to be able to respect the game, focus on MMA and just do that. My next thing for Gable Steveson and I’m gonna tell you right now, he needs to take a whole f—— year and get better defensively.”

Cejudo added, “Because if you’re just going to strike, then just strike for one full year, you’re still young, forget about anything else you’re doing with matches and grappling and all this other stuff, if your plan is to be the best in the world, forget about all of that and focus on your striking and focus on your defense. That chin, bro, when it’s touched, it’s gonna go, man.” 

Surely, things are looking quite bleak for the 26-year-old Olympian early on in his MMA career. But as per Chael Sonnen, one can't count Steveson out just yet. 

Chael Sonnen Not Giving Up on Gable Steveson Yet

Despite a lot of fans stating that Steveson is finished, Sonnen's not ready to accept the narrative. In a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, Sonnen pointed out how the real fans who know Steveson from his NCAA days will understand that the 26-year-old will surely bounce back soon. 

The former UFC star said, “History repeats itself. So if you've been a fan for a while, you don't really think a whole lot of what happened to Gable. But if you're new, oh boy, Gable may never fight again. Gable's done. He'll never come back.”

The Olympic gold medalist still seems to have a lot of backing. However, there is no set timeline for when he will make his return.
