Ian Machado Garry slammed by Dillon Danis for "antics" in Islam Makhachev fight at UFC 330

Ian Machado Garry has elicited mixed reactions from the MMA community over his friendly demeanor toward UFC welterweight kingpin Islam Makhachev in their feud. 

Ex-Bellator MMA star and RAF staple Dillon Danis has now sent renewed criticism toward Garry for the latter's decision to express -- what many felt was -- excessive friendship to Makhachev.

Ian Machado Garry ended up on the wrong end of a unanimous decision verdict and failed to dethrone Islam Makhachev in their high-profile clash that headlined UFC 330 on August 15. 

Garry has since affirmed that he's proud of his performance and would rebuild to become the champion soon. Meanwhile, Makhachev joined many others in insinuating that Garry's affable actions with him -- before, during, and after their fight -- were rather bizarre. 

Dillon Danis felt Ian Machado Garry could've beaten Islam Makhachev; slams "The Future" for his approach

Speaking to former UFC bantamweight champion "Sugar" Sean O'Malley and his head coach Tim Welch on Red Hawk Recap on Welch's official YouTube channel, Dillon Danis addressed his upcoming fight. Danis headlines the inaugural Duel Arena combat sports event next. "El Jefe" will take on Mike Perry in a welterweight MMA match at the Kia Center in Orlando this Saturday, August 29. 

Welch seemingly disapproved of Ian Machado Garry's "antics" against Makhachev at UFC 330. Danis appeared to concur.

The BJJ savant echoed the sentiments of certain sections of fight fans and experts, who highlighted that Garry shouldn't have adopted an over-friendly approach with Makhachev. 

Akin to UFC boss Dana White, Danis slammed Garry for supposedly lacking killer instinct. He stated, "Bro, he (Ian Machado Garry) has no killer instinct. He could have beat Islam... I don't know about you guys -- it could have been either his tactic where he likes to be friendly with the guy." 

On that note, Danis suggested that the friendliness might be Garry's psychological tactic to reassure himself that his opponent isn't a threat to his life. Additionally, he condemned the Irishman for some of the polarizing comments he made in the interviews and media rounds leading up to the fight. 

Danis said, "I think it helps their mind, where, it's like, 'This guy doesn't wanna f**king murder me.' But, yeah, it was weird, man. He had that fight for the taking. He really did. And it was so hard to root for him. It was, like, I almost had to root for a f**king Dagestani guy because of the way he (Garry) was talking. He was just, f**king -- he was just killing himself." 

Danis, alongside combat sports megastar Conor McGregor, has long been at loggerheads with Makhachev and the Khabib Nurmagomedov-led Dagestani community of fighters. The Ireland vs. Dagestan rivalry has been one of the fiercest in MMA lore. The American indicated, however, that Garry's words and acts almost made him root for Dagestan's Makhachev. 

The grappling maestro seemed to suggest that Garry ought to have hurt Makhachev, which he had the tools to do, but instead chose to pat and hug him even inside the Octagon.
