Islam Makhachev Gives Glimpse into What's Left of UFC Career

Islam Makhachev is 34 and is still showing no signs of slowing down. The Dagestani fighter has dominated all of his opponents up until now. However, following his victory at UFC 330, there has been significant speculation about Makhachev's retirement. Now, in a recent statement, the UFC welterweight star has put an end to all those rumors. 

Islam Makhachev Wants Three More UFC Fights

Makhachev’s mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, bid adieu to the UFC unexpectedly due to personal reasons. But the two-division champion’s fans can rest assured that the 34-year-old is not going anywhere at the moment. Shedding light on the matter, the Dagestani champion clarified that he is still up for at least three “very hard and exciting fights.” 

Makhachev also elaborated on which record he is aiming to break next. He said, “Well, no record is unbreakable. There are fighters out there who are getting closer… they have 10 or more wins . I don’t know… Maybe the title fights record? But it’s a hard one to beat. I had 10 fights before my first title fight.” 

Ahead of his bout with Ian Garry, the welterweight champion was on the verge of making history. Clinching a dominant win, Makhachev is now the only fighter in UFC history to win 17 straight fights. He broke Anderson Silva’s 16-win record in the process. 

What’s Next for Islam Makhachev in UFC? 

After successfully defending his welterweight belt, Makhachev will be looking to continue his carnage. However, he will be up against more menacing fighters. At the moment, the two possible names are Michael Morales and Carlos Prates. Weighing in on who he wants to face next, Makhachev called for Prates. 

“Yeah, why not? Nutella cake is gonna be good opponent, you know? He's an exciting fighter, and it's gonna be a good fight,” Makhachev said. 

On the contrary, Prates, too, has sent several chilling warnings to the Dagestani. With both fighters looking ready, it’s now Dana White decision if he wants to make it official.
