Islam Makhachev has Bold Prediction about Alexander Volkanovski’s Next Fight

Islam Makhachev is enjoying his life post-UFC 330. Facing off against Ian Garry, the welterweight champion had a gruelling fight. Garry, who is known for his striking, landed some brutal kicks to Makhachev’s body. He also dealt some heavy knuckles that opened up Makhachev’s face.

Thankfully, the Dagestani fighter managed to overcome all of the adversities to be crowned the champion again. Now, with his fellow Russian Movsar Evloev going up against Alexander Volkanovski, Makhachev had an interesting prediction. 

Islam Makhachev feels Movsar Evloev will Overpower ‘Volk’ 

In the upcoming UFC 333, Volkanovski will defend his title against Evloev. Now, while most critics have favored the Australian fighter to retain the championship, the UFC welterweight champion had a completely different take on the matter. Makhachev pointed out that having a significant age advantage, it was possible for Evloev to pull off an upset. 

“ knows himself that the fight won’t be easy, that Volkanovski is a tough opponent for anyone. But I think Movsar will manage with his youth. Volkanovski, honestly speaking, is not at the same peak he was a couple of years ago. Even though he is still one of the best fighters. I think it’ll be a very competitive fight but I hope Movsar will do his job,” Makhachev told the Russian press. 

This is an interesting take as Makhachev already knows the fighting style of ‘Volk.’ 

What Happened Between Islam Makhachev, Alexander Volkanovski? 

Back when the 34-year-old was the reigning champion of the 155-lb division, the Aussie fighter took a couple of attempts at the lightweight gold. Following his win against Max Holloway, Volkanovski faced Makhachev at UFC 284. This turned out to be one of the toughest fights of Makhachev’s career. After a gruelling five rounds, the Dagestani managed to sneak out a win via decision. 

The duo met once again for a rematch at UFC 294, but this time, Volkanovski did not look menacing for Makhachev. Dominating the proceedings thoroughly, the then lightweight champion beat the Aussie star via a head kick knockout in the very first round.
