Islam Makhachev Reveals Details About FaceTime Call with Conor McGregor

Dagestan and Conor McGregor never really were friends. During McGregor’s peak, his rivalry with Khabib Nurmagomedov caused some significant bad blood between the two. From cussing publicly to attacking Nurmagomedov’s family, McGregor did it all. Now, even after so many years, the bad blood doesn’t seem to have subsided. In a recent statement, Islam Makhachev explained how his interaction with ‘The Notorious’ went. 

Islam Makhachev Had Heated Interaction with Conor McGregor

Makhachev recently sat down on Match TV to reflect about his life lately. While he spoke mostly about his upcoming bouts and injury updates, the Dagestani star also pointed out how a FaceTime with McGregor escalated almost immediately. 

Makhachev stated, “Turki called McGregor on FaceTime, and we came face to face on the phone. He suggested we do a boxing match, and I said, 'Why not?'”

The interaction soon took a turn where both the fighters kept going at each other. Looking at such a heated exchange, Turki Alalshikh stepped in and took away the phone from Makhachev. Witnessing the incident, UFC CEO Dana White had a suggestion for the Zuffa Boxing co-founder. He said, 'These two hate each other; it'd be better if you didn't set up phone calls like this between them."

What’s Next for Islam Makhachev? 

Islam Makhachev has now won two fights in the welterweight division. Looking to take up more challenges in the future, the Dagestani champion expressed his desire to come back to the octagon quickly. In a recent statement, the champion confirmed that he is ready to take on his next opponent sometime in February next year. 

Makhachev said, “We'll wait for the UFC to call. I think the ideal scenario would be to fight before Ramadan. Ramadan starts for us in February. A date before Ramadan would be ideal."

Surely, Makhachev’s initial goal will be to defend his title several times in the welterweight division. Thus, the possibility of a stand-up exchange with McGregor seems unlikely at the moment.
