Will Conor McGregor Make Successful Comeback Following His Injury?

Conor McGregor is a name that is almost synonymous with the UFC. The Irish superstar was responsible for giving Dana White’s promotion significant popularity with his antics on and off the octagon. His legendary rivalry against Khabib Nurmagomedov reached some elite heights and is still one of the most talked-about incidents in UFC history.

Following his brutal leg injury against Dustin Poirier, McGregor was forced to sit out for almost five  years. When he did come back, things once again took a wrong turn. 

Can Conor McGregor End on High Note? 

McGregor has been rumored to get back to fighting for a long time. Following his fiasco with USADA, his date with Michael Chandler got delayed. Last year, Dana White made it official that McGregor was finally making it back to the octagon against Chandler. Unfortunately, an unprecedented foot injury forced ‘The Notorious’ to withdraw. 

It was not until July that fans’ expectations soared again. Making his way to the octagon at UFC 329, the Irishman got a huge pop. With lots of anticipation, McGregor went after Holloway right from the first second. That probably brought his downfall. While ‘Mystic Mac’ tried to land a flying knee, he messed up his landing. 

Since then, he failed to stand properly, as McGregor repeatedly went to the ground. Finally, unable to walk, the referee called off the fight for medical reasons.

A later diagnosis revealed that the former two-division champion suffered a torn ACL. This means that McGregor would need quite some time to recover. By that time, a lot would change in the UFC. Although the Irishman has expressed his wish to run it down with Holloway one more time, ‘Blessed’ might not be interested. 

Another Fight Between Conor McGregor, Max Holloway Might not Happen

Holloway will look to navigate his path to the championship in the lightweight division. With Gaethje the champion at the moment, Holloway might fancy his chances to replicate his feat from UFC 300. Additionally, McGregor is 38, and with age running against him, there is a very slim chance that ‘The Notorious’ would make a successful comeback. 

However, with champions like McGregor, one good bout might be enough to change the entire conversation.
