Islam Makhachev’s Top 10 GOAT List Takes Shot at Daniel Cormier

Islam Makhachev has never shied away from friendly banter, especially when it comes to his long-time training partner, Daniel Cormier. Speaking with Complex, the current Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight king took a playful jab at the Hall of Famer while discussing the all-time great debate.

While Makhachev refuses to rank himself on any official top-10 GOAT list until he officially hangs up his gloves, he made one thing crystal clear: he is definitely ahead of DC.

"Bro, this guy has to be behind me," Makhachev joked. "He's always behind me because I beat all his records. 16-fight win streak, last time when I asked him he said no, I have two belts, but now I also have two belts bro. DC has to always be behind me."

It's tough to argue with the Dagestani champion. Makhachev tied Anderson Silva's legendary record for the longest win streak in UFC history after taking down Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322 to snag the 170-pound crown. That win made him just the 11th double champion in promotion history, putting him in elite company alongside Cormier, Jon Jones, and Conor McGregor.

Hunting History at UFC 330

Even with a resume that rivals the biggest icons in mixed martial arts, Makhachev wants to stay grounded until he calls it a career. Keeping his name off the current GOAT list gives him all the motivation he needs heading into his next test. Makhachev is set to headline UFC 330 against top contender Ian Machado Garry at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.

If he beats Garry, he breaks Silva's record with 17 consecutive UFC victories—something no fighter in history has ever pulled off. While Jorge Masvidal and plenty of fight fans expect Makhachev to handle the Irishman's slick movement, Makhachev knows he can't get sloppy. 'Machado' relies heavily on hit-and-run tactics, but Makhachev plans on pressing the action and dragging him to the mat.

Whether Cormier wants to admit it or not, Makhachev keeps blowing past the standards set by his American Kickboxing Academy teammate. If Makhachev walks out of Philadelphia with his hand raised and a 17th straight win, DC won't have much of an argument left in the gym.
