Jon Jones addresses claim that he disrespected Alex Pereira with post-White House video
Jon Jones has finally broken his silence over a short clip he had uploaded after Alex Pereira's crushing TKO loss to Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250.
Jon Jones has just clarified what he had intended with the short clip he had uploaded following Alex Pereira's TKO loss to Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250. Despite how 'Poatan' himself responded to the video, Jones stresses that he meant no disrespect and that Pereira himself wasn't the target of the video at all. Rather, it was his detractors.
Jon Jones apologizes to Alex Pereira
Jon Jones took part in a recent interview with Red Corner MMA, and took the opportunity to offer some clarity regarding a short clip he had posted of himself following UFC Freedom 250. Directly after Ciryl Gane, who had previously lost to Jon Jones via first-round submission at UFC 285, TKO'd Alex Pereira in round two to capture interim heavyweight gold, Jones shared a clip of himself wearing a necklace with a goat head pendant in a symbolic declaration of his GOAT status. Pereira responded poorly to the clip, believing that Jones was taking a dig at him for the loss.
He even expressed confusion over the clip, explaining that he had never disrespected Jones and had only ever spoken highly of him. However, Jones has finally addressed Pereira's grievances, stating that the clip wasn't a dig at him, but a response to MMA fans who were eager to discredit him by crowning Pereira the greatest fighter of all time had he beaten Gane (7:49):
"After the fight, I made a video that went pretty viral. It was just a video of me with a goat necklace on and I was just making a look, and I felt as if that felt like an attack to Alex, and I just wanna say here, I hope he sees this interview, that I meant no disrespect to Alex, and that a lot of people before the fight were saying that if Alex wins he's the greatest of all time, and my little video after Alex's loss was a message to all my haters."
Jones himself had hoped to fight at the White House after plans for UFC Freedom 250 were announced months ago, but he was ultimately passed over, with Dana White repeatedly asserting that 'Bones' was retired. His last fight was a third-round TKO win against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, after which a much-hyped bout with Tom Aspinall was expected but never came to fruition after Jones chose to walk off into the sunset.
