Justin Gaethje Reveals Donald Trump Nearly Made Him Miss Arman Tsarukyan’s Knockout Win

At UFC 331, Arman Tsarukyan flipped the script right at the buzzer of the first round against Mauricio Ruffy. The Brazilian came out swinging and dished out real damage early, even busting up the Armenian's eye, but late in the round, ‘The Batman’ landed a brutal elbow that put Ruffy's lights out. Meanwhile, in his recent chat, Justin Gaethje admitted he barely saw the first round of Tsarukyan vs. Ruffy because of US President Donald Trump.

Justin Gaethje Missed Most of Arman Tsarukyan vs. Mauricio Ruffy After Donald Trump Called Him

Gaethje shared a story about how right before the Tsarukyan vs. Ruffy fight started, President Donald Trump called him to talk about golfing with him and pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau. Gaethje said he picked up and ended up chatting for about four minutes, missing almost the entire round in the process. By the time he looked back up at the screen, he had no idea how Tsarukyan's eye had gotten busted up.

“As soon as the bell rang, my phone rang and I look down and it’s Donald Trump calling me, so I answer the phone and we talk for like 4 minutes, so I miss almost the entire first round and I look up and I’m like “how did his (Arman’s) eye get f-cked up?,” Gaethje said.

Honestly, if that call with Trump had gone even a minute longer, Gaethje might've missed the entire fight. Luckily, he caught the ending just in time to see Tsarukyan land the knockout. After watching him win like that, Gaethje said he'd definitely fight him if he steps back into the cage this year.

Justin Gaethje Doesn’t Care Being An Underdog Against Arman Tsarukyan

UFC lightweight champion opened up about being a massive +450 underdog in a potential title defense against Tsarukyan. He says it honestly doesn't bother him one bit. He pointed out that he's been in 16 fights and was the underdog in 13 of them.

Gaethje said, “I’ve been in 16 fights. I’ve been an underdog 13 times… Those numbers aren’t set… That line is driven by the money coming in. It’s you guys making me the underdog every single time… If you’ve riden with me the whole time, you’re so up.”

Indeed, a fight between the two makes the most sense, as Tsarukyan has been waiting for his title shot for a long time, and finally, a champion is ready to fight him.
