Khabib Nurmagomedov Reveals One Big Difference that Sets Him Apart from Jon Jones

Khabib Nurmagomedov pointed out some key differences between himself and Jon Jones’ legacy.
Khabib Nurmagomedov and Jon Jones are arguably two of the biggest names in the UFC. While the Dagestani is known for his discipline and 29-0 undefeated streak, Jones has been touted as the GOAT by many. Even UFC CEO Dana White has publicly stated that ‘Bones’ is the frontrunner to the UFC GOAT title. However, comparing himself to Jones, ‘The Eagle’ had one major difference to point out.
Khabib Nurmagomedov Shares Key Point of Difference with Jon Jones
In a recent interaction, the Dagestani legend was heard comparing the two. He initially acknowledged the former UFC Heavyweight Champion for his incredible achievements and records in the sport. But when it came to legacy, Nurmagomedov felt that he was miles ahead.
“But achievements and legacy are two different things. I think that people tend to confuse the two things. Let's say when kids look at you and are inspired by you, that's legacy. Jon Jones has always had and will always have questions about his behavior and character but as a fighter, he is the best,” the 37-year-old said.
Khabib also elaborated that Jones’ character will be questionable since he was accused of doping not once but thrice. For context, Jones first got his interim light heavyweight title stripped off in 2016 after his win against Ovince St.Preux. Next up, the heavyweight icon had his bout with Daniel Cormier overturned to a no contest due to doping issues in 2017. Lastly, Jones was again tested positive for using oral turinabolin in 2018.
Dana White says Khabib Nurmagomedov Could Have Been the GOAT
Over the years, there have been a lot of debates as to who the true UFC GOAT is. For the longest time, the name of Nurmagomedov has come up as the possible winner. Recently, White pointed out that ‘The Eagle’ had the potential to silence all the questions once and for all, had he not opted to retire abruptly after Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov’s death.
The UFC boss stated, “Who knows what Khabib would have accomplished if he had stayed in the game? And realistically, if Khabib had done what everybody knows he could have done, he definitely would be the GOAT.”
Surely, this will remain as one of the biggest what-ifs of the UFC. As Khabib stopped at 29-0, the extent of his true potential will always be a mystery.
