Michael Page appeared to have found his groove at middleweight within the UFC, however, at UFC London, the former Bellator man will once again cut down to welterweight. Page entered camp heavy and will have to cut 60lbs if he is to make the welterweight limit for his March 21st date.

Michael Page Comes into UFC London ‘Heavy’

106kg?

Speaking on the ‘Believe you me’ podcast with Michael Bisping and Paul Felder, Michael Page admitted that he started this camp ‘very heavy’. He said that he started camp at “106kgs”, which Bisping clarified is “almost 240lbs”.

The reason behind this is that Michael Page was able to secure a spot on the upcoming Roadhouse 2 film, before finding out that his next bout would be at welterweight, rather than middleweight. For context, the welterweight limit is 170bs and the jump up to middleweight is 15lbs to 185lbs.

When discussing getting the weight off, Page stated, “We’ve been working, I’ve been working a lot, locked in”. Felder asked how long Page was given with regard to notice for his upcoming fight, to which Page informed him it was “eight or nine weeks”.

Let’s not forget, Michael Page has never missed weight in his 27 fight career.

Michael Page vs Sam Patterson

Before the knowledge that MVP has to work extremely hard ahead of his UFC London bout, questions were asked about MVP vs Sam Patterson. Whilst the fight is almost guaranteed to produce a high-level chess match, the match-up doesn’t make much sense.

MVP is 2-0 at middleweight, knocking off Shara Magomedov and former title challenger Jared Cannonier. There’s no logical reason for him to move back down to welterweight when he has plenty to offer at middleweight. We all know the problems with the UFC rankings, but the fact that Cannonier is ranked at MVP is a particularly bad look. Page is at least ranked at welterweight, a division where he hasn’t picked up a win since 2024…

Sam Patterson has been on a tear after losing his debut, going 4-0 with four finishes. He’s on the brink of a rankings spot, however, instead of forcing MVP back down to 170lbs, perhaps the UFC should have booked a Daniel Rodriguez bout, or Gilbert Burns before he got booked.
