Dricus du Plessis has lambasted his next possible opponent, accusing him of evading their fight. This comes amid rumors of the said opponent being Kamaru Usman.

Dricus du Plessis has been on a quest to recapture the UFC middleweight championship that he lost to Khamzat Chimaev in August of last year. "DDP" aka "Stillknocks" has now alluded to his long-awaited comeback fight and lambasted his upcoming potential opponent.

The former 185-pound kingpin has lately been linked to a rumored fight against ex-UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, with the latter expected to move up to the middleweight division for good.

Dricus du Plessis and Kamaru Usman both hold wins over UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland

On one hand, Dricus du Plessis is looking to bounce back from his first defeat inside the UFC's famed octagon. "DDP's" unanimous decision loss to Khamzat Chimaev also ended his nine-fight UFC win streak and 11-fight win streak in MMA overall.

On the other hand, Kamaru Usman's latest octagon outing witnessed him break his three-fight losing streak, the last loss being a majority decision defeat against Chimaev on short notice. "The Nigerian Nightmare" outpointed Joaquin Buckley in a welterweight clash in June of last year.

Incidentally, Chimaev's most recent fight saw him lose a razor-thin split decision to Sean Strickland last month. Dricus du Plessis holds two victories over Strickland at middleweight, both on the judges' scorecards.

Also, Usman defeated Strickland via unanimous decision in their welterweight matchup back in 2017.

Amid Kamaru Usman fight speculation, Dricus du Plessis accuses next opponent of evading him

Earlier this year, speculation abounded that Dricus du Plessis and Kamaru Usman could headline an upcoming UFC Fight Night card that goes down in Oklahoma on July 18.

Furthermore, UFC middleweight staple Brendan Allen appeared to divulge that Dricus du Plessis vs. Kamaru Usman is indeed expected to materialize.

During the UFC Vegas 118 post-fight press conference last week, Allen indicated that he'd be open to fighting Sean Strickland, Nassourdine Imavov, or the du Plessis-Usman fight's winner.

Given the developments, a number of MMA fans and experts have been awaiting the UFC to officially announce Dricus du Plessis vs. Kamaru Usman for the July 18 fight card.

Nevertheless, du Plessis has now put forth an Instagram post, indicating that his next opponent may be afraid of facing him. The post featured footage of him training, alongside a statement that's believed to be directed at Usman. "DDP" wrote:

"So apparently a little someone agreed to a fight but actually signing the dotted line isn't that easy when you know you're just signing for a show purse. Smart - Yes. Scared - Definitely."

The South Africa MMA star added, "Sorry people the announcement is taking longer than expected but from my side it's been signed and sealed for a while. #stillknocks #preparetobeamazed"
