Two MMA Fights Into His Career, Tye Ruotolo Is Already Set to Challenge for ONE Gold
Tye Ruotolo’s move into MMA has been anything but a slow build, and his next step could change his career trajectory.
Tye Ruotolo will challenge Christian Lee for the ONE Lightweight MMA World Championship at The Inner Circle 37 on Nov. 6 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok. ONE announced the matchup Monday putting the 23-year-old in a title fight before he has even completed three professional MMA bouts.
That rise is striking, especially considering where Ruotolo was when he first entered MMA last year. He had spent much of his career becoming one of the biggest names in submission grappling. Now he has a chance to add ONE MMA gold to that résumé.
Two Fights Were Enough to Earn Tye Ruotolo a Title Shot
Ruotolo’s first MMA appearance came against Adrian Lee at ONE Fight Night 35 in September 2025. Adrian Lee was unbeaten at 3-0 and had finished all three of his previous professional fights before Ruotolo stopped him with a rear-naked choke in the second round.
His second outing followed less than two and a half months later. At ONE 173 in Tokyo, Ruotolo faced another undefeated opponent in Shozo Isojima, who entered the bout 6-0. This time, he needed only 2:26 of the opening round to secure another rear-naked choke.
Two fights, two wins, and two submissions. That was enough for ONE to put him ahead of one of the promotion's most accomplished champions.
Christian Lee is a two-time ONE Lightweight MMA World Champion with an 18-4 record and 17 finishes. He also holds the welterweight title, making the November matchup a particularly steep test for Tye Ruotolo.
Ruotolo Has Made Every MMA Fight Count
Back in 2022, Christian Lee said the Ruotolo brothers could eventually reach the top of ONE’s lightweight division.
Tye has since backed up that potential with results. He remains the ONE Welterweight Submission Grappling World Champion, a title he won in 2023, while his MMA record has moved to 2-0. ONE has also noted that both of his MMA victories came against undefeated opponents.
Now the timeline gets even shorter. Ruotolo’s third MMA appearance will not be another test on the way up. It will be a world title fight, allowing him to turn an unusually quick start into ONE Championship gold.
