Sean O’Malley returns against Louis Smolka at UFC 264 on July 10th

“The Sugar Show” is back in town.

Sean O’Malley Returns at UFC 264

Sean O’Malley will be making his second return to the Octagon this year on July 10th against Louis Smolka on a massive PPV card at UFC 264 headlined by Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor. The bantamweight showdown will be showcased at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in front of a fully packed crowd. The news was first broke by MMA journalist Ryan Frederick of Wrestling Observer.

Sean O’Malley

O’Malley (13-1) was last seen in action back at UFC 260 when he defeated Thomas Almeida with a crushing KO in the third round. Many observers described the performance as one of O’Malley’s most impressive victory as he dominated the action from start to finish. Prior to the victory, O’Malley suffered his first professional MMA loss to Marlon Vera at UFC 252 back in August 2020 when Vera kicked O’Malley’s calf on his peroneal nerve to cause the Montana native to get dropfoot. Jimmy Crute recently suffered the same fate at UFC 261.

O’Malley has been a fan favourite ever since he arrived at Dana White’s Contender Series where he earned a contract defeating Alfred Khashakyan by first-round KO. His exciting, fluid movement style coupled with a variety of spinning kicks has made O’Malley one of the attractive fighters to watch which has boosted his popularity as well as his colourful personality outside the octagon. He has wins over the likes of Andre Soukhamthath, José Alberto Quiñónez and Eddie Wineland.

Louis Smolka

Smolka (17-7) last fought against a common opponent of O’Malley’s, Quiñónez, and won in impressive fashion by round 2 TKO back in December. A veteran of 15 UFC fights, Smolka was cut by the UFC in December 2017 after going on a 4 fight losing streak. Smolka returned to the UFC in November 2018 after winning three fights outside the promotion. Since returning to the UFC, Smolka has gone 3-2 winning against the likes of Su Mudaerji and Ryan McDonald.

Both have a chance to enter the rankings with a win. For Smolka, this is an opportunity to boost his popularity if he is to get a win over a big-name prospect in O’Malley.
