What Happened to Marcus Brimage?

Does the name Marcus Brimage sound familiar yet very foreign at the same time? You’re not the only one. Marcus Brimage welcomed “Notorious” to the UFC cage in 2013. Although the fight did not end in favor of Brimage, the “Bama Beast” wasn’t done in the UFC. In 2021, Brimage is a faint memory. What happened to the American Top Team southpaw?

Post McGregor

After being stopped by Conor McGregor in the first round of his April 6th, 2013, bout, the Colorado native needed to bounce back. His next fight took place more than a year later against Russell Doane. Brimage made his bantamweight debut that night but fell short in a split decision loss. Brimage, in desperate need of a win, used his aggressive forward pressure to earn a KO victory over Jumabieke Tuerxun.

Losing Streak

Brimage’s 2015 started out rough, when he faced Cody Garbradnt at UFC 182. The debuting Garbrandt electrified the crowd with a stellar TKO seconds before the final bell. Jimmie Rivera then handed him his fifth professional loss at UFC Fight Night 72. After the loss, Brimage was released from the UFC, going 3-4 in the promotion.

Later Career

Brimage’s MMA hopes weren’t quite dead yet. He fought for the South Korean MMA promotion, Road FC, in March 2016, where he faced off against Soo Chul Kim. He lost the fight via unanimous decision. Just a few months later, Brimage stepped into the cage for the last time when he faced off against Leonardo Morales at Viva Nicaragua Canal 13: MMA War. Again, Brimage lost the bout via unanimous decision.

Bare Knuckle Career For Marcus Brimage

Brimage looked to switch gears as he signed with the major bare knuckle boxing promotion, BKB, in April 2019. He was set to make his debut at BKB 17 where he would face off against Jamie Oldfield. Brimage was pulled from the fight and replaced by John Hick.
