The UFC will be handing out an interim title in the heavyweight division on Saturday night as MMASucka brings UFC 265 Results throughout the card. Facing off for the interim heavyweight title in the main event will be the second and third ranked contenders Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane.
UFC 265 Results – Main Event
About three years ago, Derrick Lewis challenged for the undisputed heavyweight title in a match up against Daniel Cormier at UFC 230. He lost that fight in the second round by submission before losing a second straight fight by TKO to former champion Junior dos Santos in his next fight.
Since losing back to back fights for the first time in his career, Lewis has won his last four straight. The first two wins were a couple of decision wins over Blagoy Ivanov and Ilir Latifi. After that, he picked up two straight KO/TKO wins over Aleksei Oleinik and Curtis Blaydes. He looks for a fifth straight win as he faces Gane and a chance to rematch Francis Ngannou for the title.
Facing off against Lewis will be undefeated third ranked contender Ciryl Gane. Gane entered the UFC after putting together a record of just 3-0. Since making his UFC debut, he has won six straight fights; three by finish, three by decision.
In his first two UFC outings, he picked up two straight submission wins over Raphael Pessoa, in round one, and Don’Tale Mayes, in round three. He then won a unanimous decision over Tanner Boser before picking up a TKO win over Junior dos Santos. His last two outings have resulted in back to back unanimous decision victories over Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Alenxander Volkov. Gane will be looking to earn a UFC title shot in just his tenth professional fight with a win over Lewis.
UFC 265 Results – Co-Main Event
UFC 265’s co-main event features a bantamweight matchup between top ten contenders Jose Aldo and Pedro Munhoz.
Since 2019, former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has gone 1-3. After a unanimous decision loss to current champion Alexander Volkanovski, Aldo dropped down to the bantamweight division. In his debut, he came up shot against Marlon Moraes in a very close fight as he lost by split decision. However, the loss still resulted in a title shot as he was matched up with Petr Yan for a vacant title bout at UFC 251. Aldo ended up losing the fight as Yan became champion with a fifth round TKO finish. Aldo finally snapped the losing streak in his last outing when he defeated Marlon Vera by unanimous decision at UFC Vegas 17.
As for Munhoz, he holds a record of 2-2 since 2019. Back then, he had put together a three fight win streak, capped off by a first round knockout win over former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt. That win streak was snapped in his following outing as Munhoz dropped his next two straight by decision. The first was a unanimous decision loss to current bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling. That was followed up by a split decision loss to former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. In his last fight, Munhoz picked up a win over Jimmie Rivera by unanimous decision at UFC Vegas 20.
UFC 265 Results – Main Card
Kicking off the main card will be a bout in the bantamweight division as Song Yadong faces off against Casey Kenney. Yadong has gone 1-1 in his last couple of outings, first winning a UD over Marlon Vera, then losing one to Kyler Phillips in his last fight. Kenney has also gone 1-1 in his last two as he capped off a three fight win streak with a UD win over Nathaniel Wood only to have it be snapped by a split decision loss to former champion Dominick Cruz.
Following that fight will be a match up in the women’s strawweight division as Tecia Torres faces Angela Hill in a rematch of their 2015 fight that saw Torres win by unanimous decision. Torres enters the fight with two straight wins behind her as she recently defeated Brianna Van Buren by UD and Sam Hughes by TKO. As for Hill, she enters the fight looking for a second straight win as she recently defeated Ashley Yoder by UD.
Finally, before the co-main event will be a welterweight fight between Michael Chiesa and Vicente Luque. Since moving back to welterweight in 2018, Chiesa has won four straight fights over Carlos Condit, Diego Sanchez, Rafael dos Anjos and, most recently, Neil Magny. Luque enters the fight on his own win streak of three straight with KO/TKO wins over Niko Price and Randy Brown as well as a submission win over former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in his last fight.
