After a quiet first quarter of 2022, Latin American-focused promotion Combate Global has announced their first card for 2022. Utilizing a Mexico vs. USA theme, the first event takes place this Thursday, March 24th, at the Univision studio in Miami, Florida. The promotion announced the event, which will be the first of thirty Combate Global events in 2022, on their website.

In addition to the news of the first Combate fight card of the year, the promotion also announced the adoption of open scoring by the Florida State Athletic Commission, which debuts at this Thursday’s Combate event. Open scoring has previously only been piloted by athletic commissions in Kansas and Colorado, on display at events held by Invicta FC and LFA.
Open scoring allows each fighter’s corner team to see the official judges’ scorecards after each round. The corner team then has the freedom to reveal the scores to their fighter, based on their preference and strategy. Not every MMA event in Florida is obligated to use open scoring, but it is an option should they choose to use the feature.
As far as this week’s card, the main event features a lightweight contest between Daniel Sanchez and Angel Alvarez. Sanchez (3-1) is a Sambo champion and BJJ purple belt, and returns after a decision win over Levi Escobar in Combate last year. Alvarez (4-0), on the other hand, picked up three wins under the Titan FC banner before a successful debut in Combate last year. The full card is listed below.
The card airs on Paramount+ at 12pm EST / 9pm PST this Thursday, March 24.
