The Professional Fighters League will host the final Challenger Series event of the year on Friday evening when the league returns to Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla. in search of the next great MMA prospect.
The show will feature 10 MMA debutants over four different weight classes vying for the opportunity to earn a contract with the PFL and earn entry into this year’s regular season or at the very least secure a developmental deal with the promotion. The PFL previously gave out a developmental contract earlier this season to Kentucky-native Chris Mixan at PFL Challenger Series 2.
10 Prospects, One Contract
Friday’s featured bout will take place in the welterweight division and feature Serbian kickboxer Andrija Stankovic taking on experienced amateur grappler Louis Brewington. Stankovic trains at Sanford MMA under striking mastermind Henri Hooft and will be looking to put his kickboxing expertise to the test against Brewington, a 7-5 amateur who will ride a four-fight winning streak going into his professional debut with three out of the four wins coming by way of finish. Brewington missed weight for Friday’s main event by 1.6 pounds, and the fight will proceed at a catchweight. Betting odds currently have Stankovic lined as a heavy favorite to defeat Brewington.
Atlanta-native Christian Turner an unbeaten amateur will fight another impressive prospect in Cuban-American Chayanne Serrano in the second fight from the top. Turner, who trains out of Atlanta Top Team, brings a perfect 4-0 amateur record into his pro debut while Serrano is no slouch himself having gone 6-1 in the amateur ranks. Oddsmakers currently favor Turner to get the job done against the Floridian.
Turner vs. Serrano will not be the only fight to take place at 155 pounds, however, as “Russian DNA” Alexei Pergande will fight 6-1 Atlanta amateur Joe Hamm in another battle of impressive prospects. Pergande trains out of Nashville MMA with the likes of UFC veterans Dustin Ortiz and Luke Sanders and has a 4-0 amateur record himself with all four wins coming inside the distance. He is currently favored against Hamm, who comes into Friday’s event on a two-fight winning streak in the amateur ranks. The other two fights will feature heavyweights Santino Zurita and Rakim Talley duking it out in addition to a featherweight bout between Jaylon McDaniel and Daeri Alderman, who fights out of WarriorCamp MMA in Spokane, Wash.
