It’s a rarity in MMA, but this weekend, the schedule of events extends to Sunday. While a full day of NFL action takes place this Sunday, not everybody’s going to be watching football. Competitive violence is back in Houston for another edition of Fury FC, Fury FC 96.

Imagen Venues is the site for this week’s card. Live coverage begins Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm ET/ 11:30 am PT on YouTube and Facebook with the undercard, continuing at 5:30 pm ET/ 2:30 pm PT on UFC Fight Pass for main card action.

All told, barring any late adjustments to the card, the final version of Fury FC 96 features a 16-fight slate.

Silva Aims to Return to Win Column Sunday in Fury FC 96 Main Event Sunday

Jacob Silva enters the Fury FC 96 main event this weekend having posted a record of 3-2 in his last five fights. Last time out, he saw a three-fight winning streak snapped at the hands of Shameek Harvey (9-2 MMA, 2-1 Fury) on Father’s Day in Fury FC 92.

Harvey just won last Saturday night by way of first-round submission (guillotine choke) against David Wilson (5-3 MMA) in Fight For It 22. It’s Harvey’s second straight win, as well as his second win in the Fight For It promotion.

As far as Jacob Silva’s camp is concerned, he’s had a decent stretch inside the cage of late, winning all three of his fights that took place in 2023 before suffering the setback against Harvey in June. With an undefeated opponent in the form of Luis Gurule waiting in the wings for him on Sunday evening, how will he respond to the challenge?

More importantly, can Jacob Silva bounce back from defeat this time around? Tune into the Fury FC 96 main event on Sunday evening and find out the answers to these questions.

Luis Gurule Ready to Roll Sunday

In the other corner, Luis Gurule has yet to lose thus far in his professional MMA career. Counting amateur fights, he’s won 10 contests in a row.

Most recently, he scored a unanimous decision victory after three rounds against Alberto Trujillo (9-4 MMA, 4-2 Fury) on April 21 during Fury FC 89 on UFC Fight Pass.  During the run-up to the Fury FC 96 main event this coming weekend, Gurule sat down for an interview with Violent Money TV, where he discussed his next opponent.

“I think it’s a great matchup,” Gurule began. “I’ve watched him a few times. He’s been on a few of the cards that I’ve been on, but I think my style and his [match] up very well for me. He’s a gritty guy, he’s hard to finish and he’s super-experienced, so I think it’s going to look really good.”

With eight professional wins to his credit already, Luis Gurule may be on UFC CEO Dana White‘s radar at this very moment. A victory over Alberto Trujillo, a 21-fight veteran, may put him on the cusp of a UFC del.

He has to take this step of his journey one moment at a time. It starts with the Fury FC 96 main event.

Analysis, Film Study, and Prediction

The Fury FC 96 main event is, at the core, a story of two fighters at a crossroads in their respective MMA lives. Silva makes the walk for the 22nd time this weekend, while Gurule is looking to go 9-0 as a professional.

Silva Can Fight Back

Sometimes in the sport of MMA, wins won’t come easy, but Jacob Silva has the skills necessary to flip the momentum to his side of the ledger, like he did in 2021 versus Tyler Bialecki. After getting knocked down with under two minutes left in round one, Silva landed an up kick to wobble him before securing top mount.

While Bialecki fought off an armbar attempt, Silva worked on an inverted triangle and ultimately transitioned into a kimura to get Bialecki to tap out.  If Silva finds himself in peril, he can work himself out of it.

“Grim” Could Make Sunday a Short Night for Silva

Given that Gurule has won eight bouts in a row to start his career, he can seize the momentum of the Fury FC 96 main event by any means necessary. Statistically speaking, he’s scored five of his eight victories by knockout, including his 2022 bout vs. Josiah Reyes in the LFA.

During the opening round of the fight, Gurule and Reyes stalked each other before the former landed a knee to the body to knock the latter down. From there, Gurule, nicknamed “Grim”, poured it on with a flurry of ground and pound strikes.

Referee Bobby Wombacher had no choice but to call off the fight in one minute and 15 seconds. Luis Gurule has this one in the bag if he gets Jacob Silva on the mat in the Fury FC 96 main event.

Final Thoughts

Your favorite NFL team can grab a seat on the bench this Sunday. You’ve got the Fury FC 96 main event to watch.

Prediction: Luis Gurule by First-Round Knockout.
