UFC on ESPN 14 Results

UFC Fight Island holds it’s last event on Saturday with a total of fifteen fights and will provide UFC on ESPN 14 results throughout the night. In the night’s main event former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker returns to the octagon. He will be facing off against former UFC welterweight title challenger Darren Till. Whittaker has not fought since October at UFC 243 when he lost his middleweight title to Israel Adesanya. Prior to the loss, he had put together nine straight wins that included two wins in wars with Yoel Romero.

As for Till, after losing his chance at gold in the welterweight division to Tyron Woodley, he made the jump to 185 pounds. In his debut, he faced off against former interim title challenger Kelvin Gastelum. After three rounds, Till took home the victory, winning by split decision. He now looks to grab a win over the former champion and inch closer to another chance at a title, this time in the middleweight division.

In the co-main event, Mauricio Rua and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira face off for a third time in their storied careers. They first met in 2005 when Rua defeated Nogueira by unanimous decision at PRIDE Critical Countdown 2005. The pair met again ten years later at UFC 190 as Rua defeated Nogueira again by unanimous decision. Rua enters the trilogy fight coming off a draw against Paul Craig. Meanwhile Nogueira is coming off a knockout loss to Ryan Spann more than a year ago.

Before the co-main event gets underway, Alexander Gustafsson comes out of retirement and makes the move to heavyweight. In his heavyweight debut, Gustafsson will be facing former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum. Gustafsson made his retirement announcement in 2019 after losing his second straight. After a TKO loss to Jon Jones for the vacant light heavyweight title, Gustafsson lost to Anthony Smith by fourth round submission. He looks to bounce back in a big way by picking up a big win over a former champion. As for Werdum, he too is coming off two straight losses. The first of them came at UFC Fight Night 127 when he lost to Alexander Volkov by knockout. He would then go on to lose to Aleksei Oleinik at UFC 249, losing by split decision.

Kicking off the main card will be a fight in the welterweight division as Khamzat Chimaev makes his second appearance on Fight Island. After a submission win at UFC on ESPN 13, Chimaev takes on UFC newcomer Rhys McKee. Another welterweight fight follows that one as Alex Oliveira takes on Peter Sobotta. Oliveira enters off a split decision win over Max Griffin while Sobotta’s last fight occurred two years ago as he lost to Leon Edwards. The third main card fight features light heavyweights as Paul Craig faces Gadzhimurad Antigulov. Craig’s last fight was his draw with Rua while Antigulov is coming off two straight losses by KO/TKO. Finally, before Gustafsson’s return will be a women’s strawweight fight between former champion Carla Esparza and Marina Rodriguez. Esparza has won her last three straight coming into this fight while Rodriguez has gone 2-0-1 in her last three.
