Brian Ortega details why he had no other options than to withdraw from the upcoming bout.
Brian Ortega seems to be going through a rough patch at the moment. In the upcoming UFC 331 , Ortega was supposed to go one-on-one against Renato Moicano. Unfortunately, just days ahead of his fight, āT-Cityā withdrew from the fight, citing an injury. Now, while this was bad news for Moicano as well as for the fans, the UFC star has recently provided a detailed update on what caused the mishap.
Opening up about his decision to withdraw, Ortega said, āI would have to see the commission today and I would have to hide this today from them and itās just not gonna happen⦠This is a freak accident that happened doing jiu jitsu. I wasnāt sparring, I was doing jiu jitsu.ā
āT-Cityā also went off on the fans who were accusing him of being afraid and ducking Moicano. The 35-year-old said, āFor all of you who are saying I pulled out because Iām scared, Iām ducking or whatever, you guys are stupid people. Iām not even gonna sugar coat that sā, you guys are some dumbaā-. For those of you who are mad because I pulled out and you genuinely wanna watch me fight, and youāre mad at the situation, for you guys Iām sorry.ā
Interestingly, Ortega has pulled out of three fights in the past couple of years now. And following the decision, his opponent, Moicano, does not seem to be in a happy mood.
Renato Moicano Angry after Brian Ortega āChickened Outā
Moicano is furious, and he has his reasons. This is the second occasion when āT-Cityā has withdrawn from a fight against the Brazilian star. He did it back in UFC 326. And now again. Lashing out at his opponent, Moicano pointed out how all the hard work he has done preparing for the fight has now gone in vain.
Moicano said, āThis guy is coming off four straight losses, or three straight losses, hasn't fought in over two years, and this is already the second fight he's pulled out of with one week to go. And it's the second fight against me, man! Twice against me! And what this son of a bitch doesn't know is that you have to cut weight, you spend money on training, you spend hours not producing content ā and I'm a f*cking YouTuber now."
Dana White announced that Moicano will face Tom Nolan at the UFC Fight Night card on Oct. 31.
