Court McGee announces retirement after next UFC fight
The 41-year-old UFC veteran will make his 29th Octagon appearance in Salt Lake City before walking away from MMA.
Court McGee is set to bring his long UFC career to an end. After 16 years in the organization, the 41-year-old veteran announced through his social media that his next fight will be the final bout of his career. The American also added that his farewell appearance will take place in Salt Lake City, even though no opponent has yet been announced.
Court McGee Announces Retirement Fight
McGee's next fight will be the final bout of his current four-fight contract, and the veteran has decided it will also be the last of his career. The American fighter took to Instagram to announce he will be retiring from competition after making the walk one last time.
"I signed my final contract. [...] I was going to retire before I had my neck surgery, and I had it, and I came back and renegotiated, and this will be my final fight in my four-fight contract."
McGee had already considered retirement before undergoing neck surgery following his fight against Matt Brown in May 2023. After recovering from the procedure, however, McGee still stepped into the Octagon three more times before deciding to call it a career.
" 41 years old, I've been competing in the UFC since 2010 with the four fights in The Ultimate Fighter house, Season 11, this will make it my 29th UFC fight," McGee said. "A little nostalgic, and it will be here in Salt Lake City. So, that's exciting and preparations are underway for what will be my retirement fight."
Court McGee Closes Long UFC Career
McGee entered the UFC after winning Season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter and has remained with the promotion ever since. Over the following 16 years, the veteran built a career marked by 28 Octagon appearances and victories over fighters such as Josh Neer, Robert Whittaker and Tim Means. In recent years, however, McGee has gone through a rough stretch, compiling a 1-4 record in his last five fights.
McGee's retirement fight will take place in Salt Lake City, bringing the veteran's UFC career to a close on his home turf. After 16 years competing inside the Octagon, the former TUF champion is now preparing for one final appearance before walking away from MMA.
