Dana White Responds to Oscar De La Hoya’s ‘Embarrassed’ Claim With a Wild Vince McMahon Story

Oscar De La Hoya didn’t show up for Ryan Garcia’s fight against Conor Benn, even though he is Garcia’s promoter. Zuffa Boxing was running the event, and De La Hoya has recently explained why he stayed away. He said he wasn’t going to show up just to be embarrassed, since it was a Zuffa Boxing and Turki Alalshikh event, and that is exactly what they would have done to him. Meanwhile, answering about the same, Dana White has responded and told a Vince McMahon story.

Dana White Brings Vince McMahon Into Oscar De La Hoya Drama

At DWCS’ post-fight press conference, White was asked about De La Hoya's recent comments that he skipped the Garcia vs. Benn fight because he feared being set up to look bad. White said he would never do that to someone who showed up to one of his events. He knows how it feels, he added, because Mr. McMahon did it to him at Ronda Rousey's first wrestling match.

In his words, “I would never have somebody show up to an event and do that...it happened to me. Vince McMahon did it to me for Ronda's first wrestling match."

The feud between De La Hoya and White isn't new, and the two have been trading shots for a while. Plenty of boxing promoters weren't happy when White jumped into the sport, for obvious reasons. Still, the UFC boss said that rivalry or not, he wouldn't have done anything like that to De La Hoya.

Oscar De La Hoya Slams Dana White

De La Hoya said White is getting a lot of heat for not knowing what he's doing. The criticism is coming from both UFC fans and the boxing world, and De La Hoya wondered what White is even doing.

“Dana is getting so much heat for not knowing what he's doing… The fact that he is getting heat from the UFC fans and he is getting heat from the boxing world. It’s like what are you doing… Eddie Hearn is just cooking him... He's just Uncle Fester who is right there in front of the camera, can't even give an interview because he's cursing at the reporters. I mean, what kind of promoter is that?” De La Hoya said.

The back-and-forth between De La Hoya and White doesn't look like it's slowing down. ‘Golden Boy’ keeps taking shots at the UFC boss, and White keeps pushing back, saying he would never treat anyone that way. Garcia, meanwhile, already has a Zuffa Boxing fight behind him, and De La Hoya says he doesn't see him going back.
