Dana White Teases Massive Deal with Gervonta Davis
Dana White claims he is in talks with Gervonta Davis after signing Shakur Stevenson to Zuffa Boxing earlier this month. White is in talks to make big fights.
Dana White is clearly trying to make waves with Zuffa Boxing, and he just dropped a massive hint about who he's targeting next.
After locking down Shakur Stevenson on a multi-fight deal, the UFC boss admitted he’s been talking directly with Gervonta "Tank" Davis. When reporters pushed him on whether fans could see a dream matchup between Stevenson and Davis under the Zuffa banner, White didn't play shy.
"I love Tank Davis, I'm actually a fan, and we've talked to them, so. I don't think he has any plans to fight... I don't want to speak for him or whatever, but I have talked to him, and I'm a fan."
He didn't leak all the details, but just saying those words out loud got the entire fight world buzzing.
Mega-Fights and Crossover Chaos
Signing Stevenson was a huge statement for Zuffa Boxing, but getting Davis on board would completely shift the power in combat sports. Stevenson has been calling out Davis for ages, even claiming a fight between them would be Tank's final match before hanging up the gloves.
Interestingly, boxing purists aren't the only ones eyeing Davis. Former UFC bantamweight champ Sean O'Malley has been begging for a piece of the action too. "Suga" has openly talked about crossing over into Zuffa Boxing just to test his hands against Davis in a massive spectacle.
Looking at the official numbers, Sean O'Malley sits on a 20-3-0 (1 NC) record, connecting on 51% of his significant strikes while landing 5.12 strikes a minute with 12 knockouts. These are impressive numbers in the octagon, and although O'Malley is one of the most elite strikers in the UFC, boxing is a whole different game altogether.
Regardless, O'Malley believes a fight with Davis would print money on pay-per-view, drawing obvious comparisons to that iconic Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor showdown in 2017.
Whether Davis actually signs a deal or takes a crossover fight is still anyone's guess. He’s been quiet recently, dealing with stuff outside the ring, which leaves his next move up in the air. But White clearly wants him in the fold. If Zuffa somehow pulls off getting both Stevenson and Davis, boxing is going to look very different very fast.
