Dustin Poirier Teases UFC Return at New Weight Class

Dustin Poirier had a heartwarming farewell from the UFC. In his final couple of bouts, ‘Diamond’ delivered two of his best performances. Poirier lost his final face-off against Max Holloway and hung up his gloves. In a recent interaction, the former UFC star teased about a possible comeback. 

Will Dustin Poirier Really Come Back to UFC?

Poirier recently caught up with ‘Full Send MMA,’ where he discussed his life post fighting. Elaborating on the same, ‘Diamond’ pointed out that he is enjoying his life to the fullest. For all these years, Poirier had to maintain a strict diet to maintain his weight. But now, the American fighter is happily taking in the carbs as he looks to gain size. 

The 37-year-old also teased that if he would comeback and fight in the UFC, Poirier would choose the welterweight division. He said, “If I ever did come back, I would never fight at 155. It would have to be 170.”

Poirier added, “If I stepped on a scale right now, I'm probably 190-

191... I want myself to get big, I'm lifting weight, I'm eating all the carbs. Everything I couldn't go for so many years I'm doing it all now. Lifting, eating, having fun. I'd like to get to 200…”

There’s no telling that Poirier coming back to the UFC would hype up the fans significantly, but does he really have a chance to win a championship in the welterweight division?

Can Dustin Poirier Champion the Welterweight Division?

Poirier has proved himself to be a menacing boxer. However, speaking about the current welterweight roster, ‘Diamond’ might have some hiccups en route to the championship. The likes of Michael Morales and Carlos Prates will be waiting for him. 

Even if the American fighter gets past these two, he would have to face off against Islam Makhachev for the championship. Now, the duo has already met in the lightweight division. While Poirier did give Makhachev a hard time, he ultimately submitted after getting caught in a chokehold.
