From Cageside at 11 Months to DWCS: Bella Mir Carries on the Mir Family Legacy
This is the story of Bella Mir, daughter of former UFC champ Frank Mir, who went from being cageside at 11 months to becoming an MMA fighter of her own right.

At just 11 months old, Bella Mir sat cageside at UFC 48 in June 2004, watching her father, Frank Mir, break Tim Sylvia's arm to capture the UFC heavyweight title. That moment marked the beginning of an extraordinary childhood. By age six, Bella wasn't just tagging along to workouts; she was already offering tactical feedback to her father after his bouts. Growing up in the sport, she spent years attending almost every single one of his fights, watching the former heavyweight king make his walk to the Octagon with his own father by his side.
Reversing Roles on the Big Stage
Now, the generational torch has officially been passed down. Competing on Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS), the roles finally flipped. This time, it was Frank Mir standing in the corner as a supportive parent, watching his daughter take center stage to build a legacy of her own in combat sports.
For the legendary heavy-hitter, seeing his daughter step into the cage carries far more emotional weight than any gold belt or highlight-reel submission ever did.
"I feel like I’m the richest man in the world, to have children love you as a father," Frank Mir shared while reflecting on his daughter's journey. "I think anybody who has children can understand. To be a father, to be a role model, to have your children admire you, to look at you like that… there’s nothing like it. No reward, no championship, no submission, no accolade at the end of my career when my hand is raised ever equals how that feels right now."
Bella entered her DWCS opportunity carrying an undefeated 4-0 professional MMA record alongside an impressive combat sports foundation as an NCAA wrestling champion. Facing off against Alex Apodaca in Las Vegas, the pressure was immense as she entered as a massive betting favorite.
While the night ultimately delivered a tough wake-up call, with Apodaca earning a hard-fought unanimous decision victory to hand Bella her first career setback, the journey is only just beginning for the 23-year-old prospect.
