"I am the best Flyweight in the World", Brandon Moreno Declares After UFC Noche Win

Former UFC Flyweight Champion Brandon Moreno is confident in his mindset. He believes he is the best Flyweight contender, with or without the belt.

After two consecutive losses, Brandon Moreno has made his grand comeback with a win against Joseph Morales in the co-main event of Noche UFC in Glendale, AZ. Now he wants everybody to know that, in his eyes, he remains the top dog in Flyweight.

“I have to believe in myself, and I have to believe I’m the best f*cking flyweight of the world,” the Assassin Baby said while speaking to Cageside Press after securing the victory.

He is not bothered if others do not agree with him, because at the end of the day, “It’s something I have to believe,” he said. “If you believe in that or not, I don’t care; that’s not my problem.”

The former flyweight champion has had a rough few years after losing the title belt to Alexandre Pantoja in 2023. He needed to snap his 2026 losing streak after the two-fight skid against Tatsuro Taira and Lone'er Kavanagh. He did exactly that in the octagon against Morales.

Moreno was swift with his boxing combinations, including landing a mean left hook that clipped Morales as the flyweights were exchanging blows. After answering Morales’s takedown attempt with a slick reversal, Moreno popped Morales with a shot against the cage. He then took Morales down and strategically maintained control till the end of the fight.

Still, with a stacked flyweight division, Moreno's claim remains under scrutiny. With top contenders like Manel Kape, Brandon Royval, and Tatsuro Taira, the Mexican fighter has a lot to prove if he wishes to establish himself as the top Flyweight in the promotion. 

Despite the post-fight confidence backed by his performance, the bout ended in a split decision.

Brandon Moreno had admittedly freaked out at the split decision. After his showdown with Morales, the Mexican fighter did get his hand raised, but not before the scorecards had caught him by surprise.

Moreno didn’t consider the fight to be close. Therefore, seeing one 29-28 decision against him definitely stirred the dread of being robbed of victory.

"I have bad experiences with decisions," He said in the post-fight interview, drawing from his split decision loss against Pantoja in 2023 and Brandon Royval in 2024.

“In this one I finished, and I felt super confident I got the victory, but then a judge said 29-28 Morales, and I was like, 'What the f*ck?'” Although seeing the two 30-27s did put him at ease, he has admitted the brief moment was “a little scary."

Moreno has also conveyed his gratitude towards his fans in the post-fight scrum. The love from the fans brought back memories of the night he first became UFC champion. This created within him a feeling of “An incredible Déjà vu”. “Tonight was amazing. Was the same as 2021 when I won the title. This time, again, all the people supporting me every single time. Screaming my name. The only thing I can say is thank you,” he said.
