Jamahal Hill comments on Alex Pereira's recent loss
Jamahal Hill shares his thoughts on Alex Pereira's crushing TKO loss to Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250, and the factors that led to his former rival's defeat.
Jamahal Hill took part in a recent interview on Home of Fight, and shared his thoughts on Alex Pereira's second-round TKO loss to Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250. Much of the discourse regarding the fight has revolved around Gane's shots to the back of Pereira's head. While Hill denounced the fouls, he doesn't believe they were the reason for Pereira's loss.
Jamahal Hill downplays the role of Ciryl Gane's fouls
Many have spoken out against Ciryl Gane for the back-of-the-head shots he landed on Alex Pereira at UFC Freedom 250. Among the latest to share their thoughts on the matter was Jamahal Hill, who was asked about Pereira's loss in an interview with James Lynch. Hill had a more measured take than most, expressing disappointment over Gane's fouls, but ruling out any serious impact they may have had in Pereira's loss (10:47):
"He was already hurt. He had already eaten some shots. Some pretty devastating shots, and at that point he'd already been given a chance . I mean, he was being given a chance in that moment, you know? So I don't like to see the shots to the back of the head, you know, I like to see clean shots, but do I think they impacted the fight that much? No, they didn't. I think Ciryl Gane very handily won that fight within the rules."
Pereira, however, disagrees. He characterized the jab Gane landed to knock him down as 'lucky,' and criticized Herb Dean as a referee, accusing him of not enforcing the rules. In fact, Pereira has now claimed that he will never again agree to Dean officiating one of his bouts. Pereira has also alternated between demanding an immediate rematch with Gane and expressing his fear of fighting again if the rules remain unenforced in his eyes. While his reaction has been divisive, some MMA figures stand in solidarity with him. Curiously, he isn't the first Gane opponent to highlight the latter's habit of fouling.
Tom Aspinall, the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, is currently sidelined from action after his UFC 321 fight with Gane ended in a no-contest due to the latter's eye pokes. Aspinall has since become a vocal critic of Gane and recently filmed a short skit poking fun at his rival's history of fouling.
