Khamzat Chimaev is looking forward to facing his former foe, Gilbert Burns, in RAF 13.
Khamzat Chimaev has fought a lot of top-level fighters in the UFC. However, out of all of them, Gilbert Burns will be someone who would rank as one of the toughest fights of Chimaevâs UFC career. Now, as the Chechen-born is trying to claw his way back into the UFC title scenario, he is also sharpening his skills outside of the octagon. Ahead of his RAF fight with Burns, Chimaev had some interesting words for his former opponent.
Khamzat Chimaev Cites Gilbert Burns as âToughâ Fight
Chimaev has shown some significant dominance in his recent RAF outing. Following a brief war of words with Tyron Woodley, the former UFC champion made quick work of Woodley. Pinning him in just 94 seconds, âBorzâ is flying high on confidence. His next opponent will be Burns, whom the Russian-Emirati fighter will face at RAF 13 on September 18, in Miami.
Speaking with Red Corner MMA, Chimaev said, âBurns is a good wrestler and a good jiu-jitsu athlete. We fought a couple of years ago, and he defended pretty well. We'll see how he does now.â
Chimaev and Burns locked horns back on April 9, 2022. After a gruelling fight, âBorzâ was awarded the victory via unanimous decision from the judges. It will now be interesting to see whether Burns can avenge his loss in the upcoming bout.
Khamzat Chimaev is Eager to Get Back to Business in UFC
Chimaevâs loss against Sean Strickland came as a shocker. Immediately after the loss, the Chechen-born fighter is looking to reclaim his belt. Pushing for a rematch right away, Chimaev is looking extremely focused. Although the UFC has not granted him his wish as of now, the former champion is ready to fight anybody.
âIt doesn't matter to me, l've challenged everyone. I want to get back in the ring as soon as possible. I wanted to return in October, I called Hunter and they told me Caio and Du Plessis were injured. Honestly, I don't know, we'll see what happens. Maybe Imavov and Strickland won't fight. And I'll be ready,â Chimaev mentioned in a recent statement.
As of now, there are no confirmations on when the Chechen-native will fight next.
