"Money Hungry": Fans Torch Dana White After Wang Cong Title Shot Controversy

Dana White has faced heavy backlash after his recent defense of Wang Cong's title shot revealed glaring mistakes.
The UFC 332 flyweight title bout between Natalia Silva and Wang Cong left the entire combat world scratching its head. Rightly so, with people struggling to understand why Cong received the title shot. UFC boss Dana White has no idea either.
Dana White's Bizarre UFC 332 Explanation Goes South
Wang Cong has featured on a main card only once, and even then in a losing effort. Neither is she the best the flyweight division might have produced for the 125-lbs strap. Still, Cong headlines a numbered event on Oct. 3 alongside Natalia Silva, naturally raising eyebrows.
During the pre-fight presser with MMA Fighting, Dana White attempted to explain the matchup, rather bleakly. Running down her resume, White correctly noted the 'Joker's 10-1 record. But that was about it, as the UFC head honcho then mistakenly swapped Silva's victories for her opponent's.
Rose Namajunas, Alexa Grasso, and Jessica Andrade, former champions, all of whom Natalia Silva beat in her last three UFC outings. Obviously, blundering three of the most notable bouts for the headliner of a numbered event goes beyond a minor slip-up.
UFC analyst and journalist Ariel Helwani didn't mince words as he criticized the UFC head honcho's major blunder. Posting a clip from the MMA Fighting interview, Helwani wrote on the thread:
"I guess this is what happens when you don’t follow your own product anymore?"
When speaking to the media earlier today, Dana White is asked why Wang Cong is getting a title shot.

Naturally, he runs down her resume and starts listing notable wins.
He says she beat Namajunas, Andrade and Grasso.
Problem is, though, she’s NEVER fought ANY of those.… pic.twitter.com/wT4Xty6K5h
The MMA insider wasn't the only one scrutinizing White, however, questioning his dedication to the promotion.
Fans Accuse Dana White of Money Grab
Dana White's absurdly misinformed comment definitely brought attention sharply back to the Silva vs. Cong fight, only to sweep that rug again.
One user had a blunt assessment: "He’s as interested in this fight as we all are."
To that, another fan couldn't help but reply, "Lmao facts. Ariel trynna make a point against Dana on this but none of us give a f*k about the card 🤣."
In all fairness, the bout already had a negative reception, and White's oversight begs the question whether the promotion has also given up on that matchup. However, others had more serious accusations, believing revenue remained the UFC CEO's only allure.
"He’s just money hungry, he doesn’t give 2 f**ks about anything anymore," an X user commented. Another agreed: "He is a gambling addict that's who he is."
Another comment was more blunt: "Maybe Dana needs to get fired or something. He needs his focus back, or just go away."
One fan wrote, "He is lost, even in the UFC he has no more interest, shambolic. This #FuryJoshua shit must have rattled him."
A fan even accused White of not following any UFC fight anymore, writing, "Dana doesn't watch UFC anymore, and when his at the fights, he's on his phone watching the Nelk Boys pod, so not surprised."
With UFC 332 just around the corner, White’s glaring oversight has only intensified scrutiny of the Silva vs. Cong matchup, leaving fans questioning whether the promotion has done enough to justify the title fight.
