Jean Silva’s bout with Jose Delgado might technically be his second headlining event in the UFC, but it’s the only one the Brazilian fighter remembers.
Jean Silva Opens Up on Fight vs. Jose Delgado
Jean Silva’s (18-3) win against Jose Delgado (12-3) definitely served as a redemption fight for him. This win undoubtedly brought a big Performance of the Night bonus of $100,000 to the fighter’s pocket.
Most importantly, this much-needed victory put him right back in the title mix at 145 lbs, opening up possibilities for further grand showdowns. Former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has already taken his chance to call for just that, after Silva’s win at UFC 334 in Madison Square Garden in November.
The Fighting Nerds member got a submission on Delgado via rear-naked choke, after which, the Brazilian opened up about his experience with memory loss in the post-fight press conference.
"I pulled my aside in a corner before the fight tonight and told them, 'I don't have any memories of what happened at Noche UFC last year.' It did take something away from me," Silva said at the post-fight presser.

Diego Lopes(28-8) defeated Jean Silva by TKO at 4:48 of the second round with a devastating spinning back elbow and a flurry of punches at Noche UFC 3.
It is unclear whether Silva was referring to the physical damage that caused the memory loss or the emotional trauma. However, it is safe to say Silva does have a victorious memory of the main card event he does remember the details about.
Jean Silva Faced Opponent Change Amid Eye Injury Struggle
The victory in the octagon might have been sweet for Silva, but it sure didn't come without obstacles. "Lord" revealed in a recent interview that the news of his opponent swap coincided with a cut Silva suffered over his right eye in training.
“Four weeks before the fight, I opened my eye," Silva said on a video posted on his YouTube channel. "The day after I had the cut, I got the news that my opponent had been changed. With my eye cut, I thought, 'Damn, changing opponents now, with my eye like this, what's it going to be like?'” Ultimately, his trust in his team helped him through the momentary crisis.
Silva was originally scheduled to face former interim UFC featherweight champion Yair Rodriguez (21-6) in a five-round bout. When the Mexican talent opted out of the fight due to an injury, Delgado stepped in with less than a month’s notice.
Yair took to Instagram to let fans know about his decision: “I got injured. I tried to continue my preparation, but ultimately, it wasn't responsible to compete under these conditions”.
Silva, however, showed in the cage itself that this change didn’t rattle him. “As far as his strikes go, every single one was something we already knew about. We trained to take that body kick and for me not to move," he said about his fight with Delgado on Sept. 12 at UFC Noche. "The strategy was executed really well, and I'm very happy.”
