UFC Coach Lists Reasons why Underestimating Usman Nurmagomedov Bad Idea

There's a significant hype going around with Usman Nurmagomedov. After his PFL contract came to an end, the Dagestani fighter has not yet signed a new contract. Several insiders have predicted that Nurmagomedov might follow the footsteps of his fellow Dagestani brothers and join the UFC. If he really did so, Javier Mendez is certain that the UFC fighters would have a hard time.

Nurmagomedov hasn’t yet lost a fight in his MMA career. However, since he was in the PFL, many have questioned the 22-0 fighter’s credibility against top opponents. But as per Mendez, it would be very wrong to underestimate him. Islam Makhachev’s coach detailed how some of the PFL fighters are as good as the UFC champions. 

In a recent statement, Mendez stated, “They're gonna immediately underestimate somebody like Usman. They're gonna fall into that thing about the PFL guys are not the same level. And some of those PFL guys are that level.” 

He further added, “He matches up extremely well with Arman, and I wouldn't be surprised if we get him. Would not be surprised at all.” 

With each passing day, the hype around Usman is increasing significantly. But while he is yet to decide his fighting future, the praises are not stopping coming his way. 

Paul Hughes Predicts Complete Domination from Usman Nurmagomedov 

As a former opponent, Hughes is well aware of Nurmagomedov’s craft. Having faced the star fighter twice inside the ring, the Irish PFL star concluded that getting over Nurmagomedov is quite a tough ask. Speaking about his future in the UFC, Hughes pointed out that there would be no provable threats for the Dagestani in the lightweight division. However, if anyone can beat him, it would be Ilia Topuria. 

“The only person in the UFC who has a chance against Usman Nurmagomedov is Ilia Topuria,” said Hughes. 

With so many positive statements coming in, all the roads are suggesting that Usman join Dana White’s promotion. To know if that will happen at all is something that the fans will have to wait for.
