Comedian Gary Owen feels Dustin Poirier managed to dodge public outcry despite using racial slur during his argument with a airport staff in Atlanta.

Back in June,  Dustin Poirier’s name got entangled in a controversy. He engaged in a confrontation at the Atlanta airport. During the dispute, Poirier resorted to using a racial slur. However, an American comedian feels the UFC legend somehow did not face a lot of backlash for his actions.

Dustin Poirier Dodged Criticism Despite Using Racial Slur

It was a heated argument, and ‘Diamond’ was reportedly under the influence of intoxicants. The incident was captured on camera, and the clip soon went viral. While Poirier’s action created quite a buzz, comedian Gary Owen believes the fighter managed to slip under the radar.

“I did see the UFC fighter Dustin Poirier said it and nobody said a word. Yeah. I was like, he cracked the code. He cracked the code. How to say it. He said it so smooth. I was like, yo. When I watched it, I was like, yo, I was just waiting for Benjamin Crump or Al Sharpton to show up. Nothing. You didn't even hear about it. That's how smooth he came out,” Owen stated, reflecting on the matter while talking to VLAD TV.

The 52-year-old comedian further added, “I haven't heard about it. Huh? I haven't even heard about it. That's what I'm saying. Just kind of went under the radar.” Owen shared how he was shocked to find out that a few Black UFC fighters also defended him.

Jon Jones Defended Dustin Poirier Following his Arrest after Airport Dispute

The former interim UFC Lightweight Champion was arrested by Atlanta police on June 21. Footage from a police bodycam revealed that Poirier was engaged in a heated confrontation with airport staff. Poirier threatened the airport staff, saying, “I’ll fight you right now.” Adding to that, he used a derogatory word against him. Although Poirier used a racial slur during the argument, Jon Jones publicly defended the 37-year-old fighter.

In an interview with Red Corner MMA, the former UFC heavyweight champion stated, “I hope that Dustin keeps his head high, gets back on his horse, and realizes that at the end of the day, news is news. Some people say there’s no such thing as bad press. I disagree with that, but press is press. The whole world is talking about him right now.”

Defending the American star, ‘Bones’ further added, “He didn’t hurt anybody. He was drunk, we’ve all been drunk. Alcohol makes you do silly things.” Jones appreciated Poirier for honestly opening up about his mental state.
