Vitor Petrino Eyes Top 15 Ranking Aug. 22

After three straight wins after jumping up to heavyweight, Brazilian prospect Vitor Petrino is knocking on the door to the top 15, but a towering figure from Moldova has other plans in mind.

Enjoying a three-fight winning streak after bumping up to the 265-lb landscape last year, Petrino has captured his opportunity to contend for a number next to his name when he competes at UFC Sacramento on Aug. 22. His adversary for the occasion will not be a cake walk, however, as the 28-year old is set to lock horns with perennial heavyweight contender Serghei Spivac.

Unwilling to give up his spot in the top 15, Spivac is aiming to derail the hype train of Petrino. For much of his time in the UFC, “Polar Bear” has continually distinguished himself amongst the physically strongest members of the roster, collecting wins over talented athletes such as Marcin Tybura, Tai Tuivasa, and Derrick Lewis.

Trouncing Ante Delija earlier this year, the Moldovan is seeking to jumpstart his own warpath toward the heavyweight title.

Vitor Petrino Enjoyed Steady Rise at Light Heavyweight, Two Straight Losses Caused Exit

Following an undefeated run on the South American regional circuit, which saw him accrue a record of 6-0, Petrino made his way to Las Vegas in 2022, making an appearance on the Contender Series. At the Meta Apex, he impressed in spades by flooring Rodolfo Bellato, the same man he actually defeated in his professional debut, with a stunning left hook that dropped him. The performance wowed company president Dana White, who offered Petrino a UFC contract after the conclusion of the event.

Over the next two years, Petrino would record four stellar consecutive wins, which included stoppages over Marcin Prachnio and Modestas Bukauskas. The Brazilian also netted one Fight of the Night and one Performance of the Night bonuses. This success, however, was decisively stymied by two back-to-back losses to divisional luminaries Anthony Smith and Dustin Jacoby, with the latter knocking him out in monstrous fashion with a terrifying straight right punch.

Vitor Petrino: Leaving Light Heavyweight, Current Run at Heavyweight

Riding a two-bout losing skid, Petrino opted to leave the 205-lb class to test his fortunes by moving up to heavyweight in his first match of 2025. Back with a larger and sturdier frame, the Minas Gerais native looked better than he had ever been, starching previous NFL player Austen Lane inside a round.

It was at UFC Fight Night 261 in his home country of Brazil that he cemented himself as a legitimate prospect. Facing Minnesota fighter Thomas Petersen on the preliminary portion of the card, Petrino left audience members shocked when he managed to send the American crashing to the canvas after landing a hellacious uppercut. Not only did the Petersen triumph help to bolster Petrino’s run at 265-lb, it also earned him his second Performance of the Night award.

Kicking off his 2026 campaign at the Meta Apex at UFC Fight Night 269, Petrino faced yet another name from the Land of 10,000 Lakes in the form of Steven Asplund. While he would be taken to his limits by the surging “Concrete,” he ended up getting his hand raised by unanimous decision to record his third win in a row.

Off the back of his extensive journey in the winner’s circle, Petrino is eyeing his first ever ranking in the promotion at UFC Sacramento The endeavor will not come easy, however, as Serghei Spivac is looking to defend his place in the heavyweight upper echelon, a place he has earned himself after a seven-year run in the organization.
