Tai Tuivasa Looking to Avoid Unwanted Record at UFC 331

Tai Tuivasa returns at UFC 331 to face Robelis Despaigne in a fight which sees him looking to snap a seven-fight losing streak. If he's unable to do so and loses in Los Angeles, he'll tie the record for consecutive losses in the UFC.

As things stand, former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson is the man with the most consecutive losses at eight. Tuivasa sits alongside BJ Penn with seven and certainly has an uphill battle against Despaigne.

Tai Tuivasa Looking to Snap Seven-Fight Losing Streak

From 2020 to UFC 331

Tai Tuivasa is without a win since February 2020 when he knocked out Derrick Lewis at UFC 271. For context, Francis Ngannou was the heavyweight champion at the time, Ciryl Gane was #1 in the rankings, Stipe Miocic was ranked #2, and Tuivasa was #3.

Next up for the Aussie was a headline spot against Gane in Paris. Despite doing well for snippets of the fight and dropping the Frenchman, he would go on to be finished in the third round.

Following up from his main event in Paris, he was matched with heavy-hitting Russian Sergei Pavlovich. A 54-second blowout saw 'Bam Bam' slip to 0-2, but there was still worse to come.

Finish losses at the hands of Alexander Volkov and Marcin Tybura saw Tuivasa go winless in four, all via finish.

Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Tallison Teixeira were the next two men to hand Tuivasa losses, this time over the distance. 

The most concerning loss for fans of Tuivasa was his most recent one to Louis Sutherland. The Scotsman took the fight on short notice and showed that the Australian still hadn't evolved as a mixed martial artist. He was taken down five times, controlled and lost a lopsided decision.

UFC 331

UFC 331 is set to go down on September 19th from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.

Although no official main or co-main events have been announced, it's widely rumoured that Joshua Van is going to face Alexandre Pantoja for the flyweight belt, which will be supported by Charles Oliveira vs Arman Tsarukyan.
