Waldo Cortes-Acosta Questions Tom Aspinall’s Warrior Mentality Over Ciryl Gane Fight

Waldo Cortes-Acosta slams Tom Aspinall’s mentality for not returning yet after his fight against Ciryl Gane.
In the UFC, being inactive for so long makes everyone question a fighter and leads to a lot of allegations of ducking or not being serious. The same thing has happened with Conor McGregor, Colby Covington, Khamzat Chimaev, and more. Despite how elite they are, if they stay inactive for a long time, they receive many labels. This is the same thing happening with Tom Aspinall.
It’s been almost a year since the heavyweight champion last fought after the infamous eye poke. Now, talking about him, heavyweight star Waldo Cortes-Acosta accused him of lacking a warrior mentality.
Waldo Cortes-Acosta Accuses Tom Aspinall of Avoiding Ciryl Gane Fight
Waldo seems clearly unhappy with Aspinall. He thinks the champ has had enough time to heal and should come back and fight. Waldo also said the British fighter should act like a real champion and face his problems like a warrior. He thinks Aspinall has stayed away for too long and needs to get back in the Octagon.
“Sorry for the language barrier but I think he’s got a p***y. He’s had a long time to heal and come back and fight for the title. This is not the champion for me. The champion is a person who has a problem he tries to fix to come back. You need to be a warrior in the ring and not a p***y because we don’t know where he’s at,” Waldo said.
At UFC 321, Aspinall was eye-poked and couldn’t complete the fight. Since then, a lot of things have changed in the UFC. Superstars like Alex Pereira have entered the division, Gane is now the interim champion, and several rising contenders like Josh Hokit, Waldo Cortes-Acosta, and more have emerged.
Consequently, Waldo isn’t completely wrong. It’s been so long that the heavyweight division has moved forward so quickly, and if it takes some more time, Aspinall might have to relinquish the title.
Dana White Reveals Tom Aspinall Is Still Injured as Heavyweight Division Moves Forward
Recently, Dana White gave an update on Tom Aspinall, and it was not good news. He said the heavyweight champion is still hurt and is not ready to fight yet. The UFC boss said the heavyweight division will keep moving while Aspinall is out. In his words, “Tom Aspinall’s hurt until we hear differently so the heavyweight division will keep rolling.”
The UFC heavyweight title has not been defended in the Paramount era, given Aspinall has now been out for over 300 days. He has also been out longer than Valentina Shevchenko was before she gave up her title. He is just a few days away from passing Jon Jones’ 2023-24 injury layoff. And now that the UFC boss has said the heavyweight division might move forward without Aspinall.
