Happy Birthday, Mom! — Yaroslav Amosov Chokes Out Joel Alvarez in Round 2 at UFC 328
A few minutes after Yaroslav "Dynamo" Amosov defeated Joel Alvarez via submission (Round 2 -- time 1:13) at UFC 328, he made a family celebration of the evening, shouting into the cage mic, "happy birthday, mom!", while celebrating his victory.

Amosov entered the UFC 328 preliminary card as the favorite and with more experience as a grappler. He used this advantage to feel out Alvarez in round 1, but then took control in Round 2. Amosov caught alvarez in the clinch and immediately drove him to the ground where he finished the fight via submission just 73 seconds into Round 2.
This is Amosov’s second first half submission in the Octagon. In his ufc debut last December he submitted Neil Magny by anaconda choke.
A win bigger than the cage
While Amosov won the fight, which advances his career, the true significance of the victory lies outside the Octagon. During the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Amosov's mother, hid his Bellator championship belt in the basement of the family home in Irpin. She successfully protected the belt from being destroyed by the Russian bombing. Therefore when the cage door closed and the post-fight microphone was passed to Amosov, he immediately turned to his mother: “happy birthday, mom! That one is for you.”

With this submission victory, Amosov has now gone 2-0 in the ufc and is moving closer to being included in the top contenders for a shot at the ufc welterweight title. However, there are still several fights left tonight at UFC 328. Fans will be watching the ufc 328 main event – middleweight title bout between Khamzat Chimaev vs. Sean Strickland.
However, for those one minute and thirteen seconds of round two, the welterweight division belonged to a fighter, son and mother from Irpin who taught him what true toughness looks like
