Our friends at BetOnline have given the opening odds and they are fairly close. Ferguson opened at a -180 favorite, with Oliveira a +155 underdog. However, just two days after the fight was announced, the odds narrowed, with Ferguson sitting at -140 and Oliveira +120.
Tony Ferguson -140 favorite against Charles Oliveira
Ferguson (25-4) looks to have gotten his wish. He took to social media and campaigned for one more fight before the year’s end, however not against who he had hoped. The called out was with UFC newcomer Michael Chandler. This bout with “Do Bronx” is expected to take place on December 12.
“El Cucuy” won 12 fights in a row, including the interim lightweight championship against Kevin Lee, before being TKO’d by Justin Gaethje at UFC 249 in May.
Oliveira (29-8) is riding a seven-fight winning streak and has earned six bonuses in those seven fights. Since making his return to 155-pounds in 2017, the 31-year-old has gone 7-1. Just as impressive, is the fact that he earned stoppages in all seven of those victories.
Most recently Oliveira earned a submission victory against Kevin Lee at UFC Fight Night 170 in March of this year.
The main event at UFC 256 was expected to be between UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling, however, that was scrapped on Saturday night. While the fight hasn’t been finalized, it sounds as if UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo will take on Brandon Moreno.
