Speaking at UFC 274, former title challenger and BJJ phenom Gilbert Burns has been talking to BT Sport about a potential fight with fellow former title challenger and ‘BMF’ Jorge Masvidal. The two men have gone back and forth on Twitter recently, showing each other a high level of respect in doing so.

Gilbert Burns Set for Clash with Jorge Masvidal in September or October
Burns is fresh off a fight of the year contender against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273 and prior to that, he dominated Stephen Thompson over three rounds. Having had a fairly stop-start career at lightweight, Burns made the move up to 170lbs, going on a good run of form. He then, like many before him ran into the champion, Kamaru Usman, and fell at the hands of the pound-for-pound king.
The same fate happened to Jorge Masvidal, going 0-2 against the champ, including a vicious knockout loss. He then entered into a grudge match against Colby Covington where he was thoroughly outwrestled. Covington controlled his foe for 16:14, truly dominating him. Masvidal struggled to get any real offense off, leading to a one-sided loss.
With the two men teasing a potential match-up, it has certainly got fans excited. The fight makes a lot of sense, with Burns #4 and Masvidal #8 and both are coming off losses.
Speaking to BT Sport, Burns is targeting September or October for a potential clash with Masvidal.
