Back in Las Vegas, the UFC hosts two flyweight title fights as we bring you UFC 255 results all night. First up, in the main event, newly crowned flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo looks for his first title defense. Taking him on will be Contender Series alum, Alex Perez. Figueiredo was originally scheduled to face former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt for his first defense. However, Garbrandt was forced out of the fight with a torn bicep, allowing Perez to step in. For Perez, he becomes the first product of Dana White’s Contender Series to earn a title shot.
Figueiredo only has one loss in his career which was a unanimous decision loss to Jussier Formiga in 2019. Since then, he has won his last four straight fights. He started with a unanimous decision win over Alexandre Pantoja before submitting Tim Elliott at UFC Fight Night 161. He would then face Joseph Benavidez for the vacant title, however, he had missed weight prior to their first meeting. This made him ineligible to win the belt yet he still went on to defeat Benavidez by TKO. About five months later, the UFC remade the fight. This time, Figueiredo made weight and won the belt by finishing Benavidez in the first round by submission.
As for Perez, since he made his debut in 2017, he has gone 6-1. He quickly put together three straight impressive wins over Carls John de Tomas, Eric Shelton and Jose Torres. He would then suffer a TKO loss to Benavidez at the TUF 28 Finale. Since then, he has won his last three straight fights. He started with a unanimous decision over Mark de la Rosa before picking up a submission win over Jordan Espinosa. In his most recent outing, Perez finished Jussier Formiga with leg kicks.
UFC 255 Results
In the co-main event, the women’s flyweight title will be on the line as Valentina Shevchenko looks to extend her title reign. Taking her on will be former Invicta FC flyweight champion Jennifer Maia. Shevchenko won the title in 2018 and has put together three title defenses since. The first was a second round knockout over Jessica Eye before picking up a unanimous decision over Liz Carmouche. In her most recent title defense, Shevchenko finished Katlyn Chookagian by round three TKO at UFC 247.
Maia has gone 3-1 in her last four fights, starting with a two fight win streak. During that time, Maia had won two straight unanimous decisions over Alexis Davis and Roxanne Modafferi. She would then lose a UD to Chookagian before picking up a huge win in her next fight. Flyweight contender Joanne Calderwood had a title shot locked up before COVID hit. As she did not want to wait, Calderwood faced Maia at UFC Fight Night 173. Maia stole her title shot that night as she finished Calderwood with an armbar in the first round.
Kicking off the main card will be a light heavyweight rematch between Shogun Rua and Paul Craig. The pair fought to a split draw in their first meeting at UFC Fight Night 164. Next up will be a fight in the women’s flyweight division that could have big title implications between Katlyn Chookagian and Cynthia Calvillo. While Chookagian may not be near another title shot just yet, a win for Calvillo could put her in position for one herself. Finally, before the co-main event will be a welterweight bout between Mike Perry and Tim Means. Both men enter coming off recent unanimous decision wins in their last fights.
