Brendon Marotte talks CZMMA 67 Bout

Brendon Marotte spoke with MMASucka ahead of his main card match-up at Combat Zone 67. The New Hampshire fighter takes on Robert Best at the event.

A Familiar Cage

This appearance is his fifth for the long-running New England promotion. All four of his previous appearances came as an amateur. Overall he went 2-2 during his amateur run with the promotion. In that span, Marotte captured the amateur featherweight title. The only losses of his amateur career came inside the Combat Zone cage.

As an amateur, Marotte fought for several of the region’s top promotions. Besides the aforementioned Combat Zone promotion, he competed for CES and Cage Titans

Turning Pro

Marotte took his talents pro in the early part of 2018. His professional debut came with the CES promotion at the organization’s 48th numbered event (CES 48). There he earned an impressive 2nd round TKO victory over Jhon Costa.

From there, Marotte took little time to step back into the CES cage. At CES 50, the rising prospect took on Arslan Otchiyev. He defeated Otchiyev with another impressive stoppage finish as he earned the TKO with 13 seconds left in the opening round to bring his professional record to 2-0.

Robert Best

Robert Best comes into the matchup at this weekends CZMMA 67, with a wealth of amateur fighting experience. While his professional record sits at 0-1, Best competed 25 times in the amateur ranks. His amateur record stands at 12-13.

At the moment, Best is winless since 2015. His last victory came as an amateur at the MMA Classic Expo, an event held by DC Promotions. As the main event of the Syracuse, New York card, he defeated Vince Ciotoli by split decision.

Since then, the New York fighter competed five times during his losing streak. Four losses came as an amateur with Best’s most recent loss coming in his professional debut.

Best is a tough competitor. Over the course of his entire career, he has only been finished twice. Both stoppage losses came early in his career, back in 2012.

Combat Zone 67

Combat Zone 67 takes place at the Manchester Downtown Hotel in Manchester, New Hampshire Saturday, September 21. Other intriguing bouts on the card include Cage Titans 39 headliner, Connor Barry vs. Jeff Anderson, as well as Justin Boraczek vs. Duncan Zechariah Smith in a battle for the promotion’s vacant amateur welterweight title.
