There is no great surprise as to the UFC parting ways with Alex Morono or Lucas Almeida, as neither man has impressed in recent fights.
Alex Morono, Javid Basharat and Lucas Almeida all cut from the UFC
Alex Morono
Alex Morono joined the UFC in 2016, beginning with two straight decision wins. The American peaked during 2021 when he put three victories together, including an impressive knockout of Donald Cerrone.
In recent times, however, he’s gone 2-6 in his last eight fights, and despite asking for one last fight in the UFC after his loss this past weekend, it wasn’t granted. The UFC isn’t a charity where they are obliged to give veterans another fight just because they have requested it. Four lacklustre performances on the bounce warranted him being cut.
Someone’s departure from the UFC that doesn’t make sense is Javid Basharat.
Javid Basharat
After an impressive start to his professional MMA career, Javid Basharat gained a slot on the Contender Series. Basharat didn’t worry about his opponent, Oron Kahlon, missing weight and went on to submit him and gain a UFC contract.

Three straight decision victories saw him hit good form at the beginning of his career, and despite a no-contest and two-straight losses, Basharat got back to winning ways this past weekend (against another opponent who missed weight).
Lucas Almeida
Lucas Almedia’s departure from the UFC, like Alex Morono’s, doesn’t come as a great surprise. The Brazilian has never kicked on after gaining a UFC contract. With a 2-3 record with the promotion, including a weight miss and two fight withdrawals, it’s hard to argue that Almeida should have stayed.
