Conor Benn Compares Brutal Weight Cut to 'Pits Of Hell'

Conor Benn is eager to clinch the WBC Welterweight Championship title from Ryan Garcia. However, even if he wins, the British boxer might not remain the champion for a very long time. Fighting in the 147-pound category, Benn stated that he is not having a good time maintaining such a weight. 

Conor Benn is Torturing Himself to Remain at 147 lbs

Benn has been one of the biggest names in recent times. Aiming to clinch the first major title of his career, the star boxer has made quite a hype. Speaking to the media ahead of his big fight, Benn admitted that it was not feasible for him to maintain his body for the 147 lbs category. 

The British boxer said, “This is my last fight at 147. I feel unbelievable at 160. I've always wanted to win a world title at 147. I wouldn't have made it for any other fight apart from fighting for the world title. It's been four and a half years since I made it and it does feel like I've been through the pits of hell and had a fight with Satan and God brought me back to life. That's how it feels making this weight. But ultimately I've done it and that's it."

This would be a huge upgrade for the 29-year-old, as winning the title will present him with opportunities of fighting against many top-level boxers. And Benn would surely need it after everything he has gone through in life. 

Conor Benn Almost Made Decision to End His Life

Dealing with the PED accusations, Benn went through a really dark time. Reflecting on his dark past, Benn revealed in a conversation with Ryan Clark that he lost the zeal to live and wanted to end his life. 

Benn said, “I couldn’t bear the thought of having to (wake) up to the same reality I was living. And when your faith lets you down, when you feel like your faith lets you down, that’s when that’s when it all comes to an end, you know. And yeah, I almost took my own life.” 

He also stated that a deer was responsible for making him change his decision.
