Conor Benn Reveals one Reason that Made Him Decide against Ending His Life

Conor Benn will be fighting Ryan Garcia for the WBC World Welterweight Championship. With the weigh-ins done, all the doubts surrounding the bout have now been eliminated. Aiming to win the title, Benn will hope to reach the pinnacle of his career. Surprisingly, all of this would have been a dream if not for a deer. 

Conor Benn On How a Deer Saved His Life

Benn recently opened up about the dark chapter of his life. During the time when he was involved in a PED controversy, Benn pointed out that he had gone into depression. The 29-year-old boxer also elaborated on how he felt ashamed to show up to the gym. It was during this period that Benn developed suicidal thoughts. 

Speaking on ‘The Pivot’ podcast, Benn described how a deer was responsible for stopping him from ending his life. Benn said, “My mom had called me a few weeks earlier and said, 'Son, God showed me a sign that you're going to be okay.' And she said, 'I asked for a sign. I asked for a deer! And I'm standing there, and I'm at the bridge, and I'm looking down at the motorway, and there's a deer. And I went, 'That's it.' And I walked home.”

The British boxer also stated how such an incident inspired him to name his son ‘Hart,’ which translates to deer. 

Conor Benn Elaborated About His Dark Times

In his conversation with Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder, Benn recalled the hardest moments of his life. As the PED fiasco almost made his boxing career uncertain, the emotions began to get the better of the British boxer. 

“I couldn’t bear the thought of having to (wake) up to the same reality I was living. And when your faith lets you down, when you feel like your faith lets you down, that’s when that’s when it all comes to an end, you know. And yeah, I almost took my own life,” pointed out the 29-year-old fighter.
