Dana White Wants to Aid Mayweather Amid Suit

UFC CEO Dana White took to the podium after Zuffa Boxing 08 Sunday night to discuss Floyd Mayweather's money troubles because of a lawsuit.
Dana White, UFC CEO and Zuffa Boxing co-founder, had another busy weekend this last weekend of June. Sunday night, more than 24 hours after the UFC's most recent Fight Night in Baku was completed, the world of pugilism took center stage in Las Vegas.
The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan was the setting for Zuffa Boxing 08. Capping the boxing card was a 10-round lightweight main event between Jose Valenzuela (16-3, 10 KOs) and Edwin de Los Santos (17-3, 15 KOs.) The former scored a knockdown in the second round and after the 10-count was reached, the fight was called off in his favor.
To begin the Zuffa Boxing 08 post-fight press conference backstage at The Chelsea, Dana White revealed that Valenzuela was one of two contestants appearing on Sunday night's event to receive the Performance of the Night bonus. Tony Hirsch Jr. (9-0, 5 KOs,) who stopped Jaybrio Pe Benito (7-1, 5 KOs) in the third round of a scheduled eight earlier in the evening, was the other winner of the Performance of the Night.
Dana White Discusses Floyd Mayweather's Lawsuit, Money Woes at Zuffa Boxing 08 Press Conference
Among the topics discussed in the post-fight press conference late Sunday evening was the lawsuit filed by boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. Although "Money" went undefeated inside the squared circle of boxing at 50-0 with 27 career wins by knockout, he's lost big in the financial department.
Earlier this month, ESPN reported that CSI Sports Events, which was to produce an exhibition contest pitting Floyd Mayweather against Mike Tyson, filed a lawsuit against Mayweather, citing breach of contract with the company. A planned exhibition between Floyd Mayweather and Mike Zambidis in Greece this past Saturday night was scrubbed due to the pending suit.
CSI Sports Events was also contracted to produce an official fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao in the second half of 2026. As a result of the legal proceedings against him, Mayweather is said to have lost $175 million (USD.)
"I've talked to him about it," Dana White said of Floyd Mayweather's lawsuit. "I don't know enough about it. You hear all those different stories. I think you have to wait to see how this thing's going to play out in court for him."
Dana White and Floyd Mayweather's Business Relationship
Dana White and Floyd Mayweather have worked together in the past. Nine years ago, Zuffa, LLC and Mayweather's own Mayweather Promotions collaborated to promote the now-famous Money Fight pitting Mayweather against Conor McGregor.
By night's end, "Money" scored a 10th-round knockout victory over "The Notorious." This main event served as Floyd Mayweather's one-night only return to professional boxing, suspending his retirement to train for the McGregor fight.
Dana White on Potentially Helping Floyd Mayweather
Although Mayweather stayed active with a series of exhibition bouts in recent years, he'd hoped to resume his pro career once more before the lawsuit. Dana White mentioned that Zuffa Boxing could potentially provide a lifeline for Mayweather.
"When somebody works as hard as he did and amasses the type of wealth that he had and then they lose it or it gets stolen or whatever the deal is, it's horrible," White said. "It happens a lot in professional sports. Who knows?Anything is possible. Maybe we could do something and figure it out for him."
