Fans hail Quillan Salkilld over cover of George Michael's Careless Whisper before UFC Vegas 120

Quillan Salkilld appears to have captivated a number of fans with his rendition of legendary English singer George Michael's iconic song.

The song in question was "Careless Whisper" -- categorized as a contemporary pop track with R&B as well as soul elements. It was released in the year 1984 and is considered to be one of the most popular musical pieces in Britain and well beyond. 

Michael was a part of the beloved pop duo "Wham!" with Andrew Ridgeley back then, with both musicians having co-written the aforementioned song. 

Well, Quillan Salkilld's singing talents have seemingly come to the fore ahead of what many believe is one of the most high-profile fights of his MMA career thus far. 

Quillan Salkilld is set to compete in his first UFC headlining matchup as he takes on Mateusz Gamrot at UFC Vegas 120

Quillan Salkilld made a mark on the UFC's DWCS (Dana White's Contender Series) back in 2024, and his main roster UFC debut came to fruition the following year. The 26-year-old is 5-0 inside the octagon, boasting an overall MMA record of 12-1. 

Salkilld hasn't tasted defeat since being submitted in his mixed martial arts debut bout back in 2021. Moreover, he's coming off a first-round TKO stoppage against UFC lightweight staple Beneil Dariush, whom he bested in May. 

On the other hand, his opponent, Mateusz Gamrot, is 1-1 in his past two octagon appearances. He suffered a submission loss at the hands of former UFC lightweight champion and reigning BMF titlist Charles Oliveira last October.

The 35-year-old Polish fighter bounced back with a submission stoppage of Esteban Ribovics this April. "Gamer" also asserted that he has signed a new UFC deal. 

Presently, Salkilld is scheduled to take on Gamrot in a five-round lightweight showdown, which is set to serve as the main event matchup of UFC Vegas 120 at the Meta Apex on August 8. 

Australian MMA star Quillan Salkilld earns praise for his singing after a cover of George Michael's "Careless Whisper"

During a recent conversation with Helen Yee Sports, Quillan Salkilld signaled that he's looking forward to his imminent clash against Mateusz Gamrot. Additionally, when asked about whether he has any hidden talent, he proceeded to showcase his singing skills. 

The Australian combatant indicated that he has a talent for karaoke and plays a little bit of chess as well.

He further implied that he'd been roommates with a Filipino individual -- referencing the vibrant karaoke culture among the people of the Philippines -- and partook in many karaoke sessions through the connection.

Salkilld, whilst admitting that he was forgetting the exact lyrics of the song, went on to cover the late great George Michael's "Careless Whisper" during his meeting with Helen Yee. 

Netizens soon took to the comments section of Yee's YouTube video, lauding the UFC fighter for his skillful singing and voice. One fan wrote, "The voice of an angel." Another similarly noted, "Very good singing." 

Meanwhile, a netizen wrote, "Filipinos for Quillan." A few commenters deemed the performance a win for Salkilld, whereas one commenter opined that the Aussie athlete lost his accent while singing, "Funny how Brits and Aussies lose their accent when they sing."
