Holly Holm opens up about dream boxing match with Katie Taylor

1 hours ago2 min read

In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Holly Holm answered a range of questions, including one about a potential boxing match with Katie Taylor.

As Holly Holm gears up to face Stephanie Han at MVPW 03 in a rematch for the WBA women's lightweight title this Saturday on May 30, she took part in an interview on The Ariel Helwani Show. While she's focused on Han, 'The Preacher's Daughter' did not hesitate to confirm that she's more than willing to face the highly regarded Katie Taylor in a boxing match if the opportunity arises.

Holly Holm eyes Katie Taylor matchup

Ahead of her rematch with Stephanie Han, to whom she lost via unanimous technical decision, Holly Holm was asked by Ariel Helwani if she is aiming to face unified women's super lightweight champion Katie Taylor in a future boxing match. Holm, who is now fully committed to boxing following her return from MMA, didn't hesitate to express her interest in the bout (5:52):

"Yeah. I think that's very fair to say, and I know that's only if I do well. That's why I treat this fight as my only promised fight, because with whatever happens Saturday is what doors open, what's promised going forward, what things I can work for going forward, and that's why I want to make a statement this Saturday, because a fight like that would be amazing. You know, I've got Irish heritage, I know... her and I, there was talk even before I went to MMA, like, 'I wonder if I'll ever actually fight her?' You know? It might be a full circle thing. Maybe that comes to fruition, we'll see."

Despite her hope for a matchup against Taylor, she recognizes that it hinges on how well she performs against Han this Saturday. Taylor is not only the unified women's super lightweight champion, but she is 25-1, still well-conditioned, and coming off back-to-back wins over the great Amanda Serrano. Although Holm is one of the greatest women's boxers of all time, she is 44 years old, and has spent 12 of the last 13 years as an MMA fighter, before ultimately returning to boxing after a listless end to her once memorable UFC run, which saw her dethrone Ronda Rousey as the UFC women's bantamweight champion and hand the latter her first professional loss.
